Graduate Account Manager

The company

My client is an innovative tech start-up who are on a mission to create an on-demand global workforce, powered by university students.

They have designed an app which connects hospitality and retail business with students across London. At the touch of a button these businesses can hire a verified student to resolve a short staffing issue, be it a no show, staff holidays or they are simply busier than anticipated. Students have the flexibility to plan their shifts around lectures, assignments and exams without having to commit to set days and times to work each week. This app gives them the flexibility to work as few or as many hours as they want.

For both parties it’s completely commitment free. Businesses can access a network of thousands of verified students whenever they need an extra pair of hands, and students can pick up work when they have free time or need the extra cash!

Businesses can request a student up to an hour before the shift starts by sending out an alert to those students in the platform. Students can set their availability preferences to only receive alerts for shifts that are on certain times or days and they can then book on to whichever shifts fit their schedule. Shifts can range from being a couple of hours over the busy lunchtime period to a whole day’s work.

The business has already established a strong client base and are now looking to take on several graduates in account management roles

The role

An account manager works directly with existing clients, building and maintaining the businesses relationships with a wide portfolio of hospitality and retail clients (including some of the biggest names on the UK Highstreet).

Relationship building is paramount to this role. You will need to have regular meetings with each client and stay on top of questions and queries they have regarding the app or how the process works. Therefore, you will spend around 50% of your time out and about meeting your clients and the rest of the time you will be in the office.

When the sales team bring on a new client to the business, you will be responsible for delivering demonstrations and training, so clients are fully aware of how to use the app and all its functions.

You will need to learn your client businesses and be able to quickly understand your clients’ needs so you can be proactive when offering insight into ways they can get the most out of the app.

You will be responsible for putting together and analysing weekly stats reports for your clients and then use these as a tool to give advice and guidance on how best to use the app to give clients the most efficient and cost-effective solution for their business. You will need to be a good problem solver and be able to deal with issues that arise with clients in a quick and professional manner.

On joining the account management team, you will go through an intensive 2-week training programme where you will learn the ins and outs of the business and role. We are looking for hard-working, bright and confident individuals who have a self-starting mind-set required to thrive in such an environment and help support their growth.

Previous experience in a customer facing role would be an advantage but what’s more important is your ability to quickly build relationships and demonstrate to clients the benefits of what the app has to offer.


  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a top university with a 2:1 or higher and a strong academic track record
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to work independently
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • A self-starter with the ability to work in a rapidly growing and unstructured business
  • Experience in a customer facing role (desirable but not essential)
