The company

My client is an innovative tech start-up who have designed an intelligence platform which connects businesses requiring expertise with professionals and experts in field across the world.

Their clients are some of the world’s leading private equity houses, management consultancies and asset managers. These businesses constantly need expert advice in order to grow or improve their performance. My client intelligently identifies and connects them with experts who would assist them, typically on a freelance consultancy basis, providing advice and guidance on their project or goal. It could be for work in acquisition & investment, due diligence, and other complex projects. For example, a private equity firm wanting to undertake a significant billion pound investment in a developing market who wants an accredited, senior local expert could use their service to reach out and hire them for a consultancy so they make the right investment that provides a significant return.

Artificial intelligence is a big differentiator for the business as it makes the recruitment of experts easier, more cost effective but still intelligently targeted. Clients have access to the platform directly and visibility of the progress in sourcing experts at any time.  Whilst old fashioned networking is great, ultimately it has significant limitations on a global scale and the platform has been designed to be far more thorough yet still give confidence in expertise and getting the right specialism.

They are now recruiting several roles within the business.

The role

An associate’s roles is working directly helping clients connect to industry experts. You will be working across multiple client accounts and geographical locations; you will be acting as an intermediary between your client and high level industry professionals.  You need to be able to quickly understand the different projects. You need to be able to research your client businesses and their venture so you can be prepared to credibly have a conversation with them about their knowledge gap. You need to be able to then work very consultatively, asking the right questions to really understand what expertise they need and which knowledge gaps are most important for them to address.

You need to be able to then write a compelling brief for experts that both addresses the issue and knowledge gap needing to be filled and then identify  industry experts through the platform. This includes both experts “in the network”, who they have already worked with, to new experts in field. There are no cold outbound calls as such; you can use the system’s platform to message / email to reach out to industry professionals. Once industry professionals have expressed interest you would then arrange to have a conversation with them to explain the project and purpose, confirm the expert’s credentials and expertise in relevant area, and agree terms or next steps towards agreement.

We are looking for hard-working, bright and confident individuals who have a self-starting mind-set required to thrive in such an environment and help support their growth. Although we have a comp above average basic salary there is fantastic earning potential based on how many successful engagements of industry experts you achieve. You will earn commissions on every expert you connect plus a team commission’s structure and a bonus. Their offices are based in Shoreditch in a trendy co-working space where collaborative working is encouraged.

Knowledge of public or private equities, consulting, or venture capital would be an advantage but what’s more important is your ability to quickly explain a concept, process and the benefits of what their platform has to offer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with a  2:1 or higher and a strong academic track record
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to work independently
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • A self-starter with the ability to work in a  rapidly growing and unstructured business
  • A hard worker and willing to put in extra hours. The North American market is key to the business and working appropriate hours to this market will sometimes be necessary
  • Exceptional communication
  • Fluency in English and additional languages are desirable (especially German, French, Portuguese and Japanese)
