The Berkeley Group
The Berkeley Group is one of the market leaders in the property development industry today. We specialise in the regeneration of brownfield sites and our focus is on creating beautiful, successful places in London and the South of England. We work to tackle the shortage of good quality homes whilst making a lasting contribution to the landscape and communities we help create.
Beginning as a niche builder of high quality homes in the leafy suburbs, the Berkeley Group was established in 1976. By 1985, Berkeley was structured around autonomous operating companies and fully listed on the London Stock Exchange, with a market capitalisation of £67 million. The Group correctly anticipated the UK housing market downturn of the late 1980’s, placing it in a perfect position to devote its people and resources to one of the most exciting challenges of contemporary living: urban regeneration. Since the early 1990’s, the Berkeley Group’s five major divisions- Berkeley Homes, St George, St James, St Edward and St William- have become widely acknowledged as pioneers across London and the South of England.
The Berkeley Group has grown to become one of the countries most sophisticated mixed-use developers and integrates quality and sustainability into every facet of its developments. We strive to be innovative, creative and forward thinking in our approach.
We are dedicated to creating sustainable communities that meet our customer’s expectations for their lifestyle and with an enthusiasm for vibrant dynamic schemes the Berkeley Group has created some of the most high profile locations in London and the South of England today. We have transformed large swathes of brownfield land reviving local landscapes and establishing thriving new communities.
The Berkeley Group is frequently recognised for the work they do. In 2008 Berkeley Group was the first property developer to win the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Sustainable Development and in 2014 we became the first property developer to win the Queen’s Award for a second time. Other recent accolades include: the Evening Standard – New Homes Award for best large development, best apartment by a larger developer and development of architectural merit. The WhatHouse gold award for best Regeneration scheme, the Sunday Times homebuilder of the Year award for a second year, the Institute of Customer Service (ICS) Customer Satisfaction Awards 2016 – Customer Focus (Large Enterprise) Winner and the NHBC Health and Safety Best Site Award.
