The Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing (IDM)

Who are we?

The IDM are a globally-renowned training and membership organisation with a mission to train marketers in the most effective digital and direct marketing techniques that are bringing today’s brands the best results. We help marketers be the best they can be.

We also have a second mission. To create a clear pathway to inspire young people to join the growing direct and digital marketing industry. We want to give the brightest graduates, no matter what their degree subject, everything needed for a head start in the marketing profession.

What does that mean to you?

If you manage to earn a place on one of our free student programmes (and make no mistake, we’re tough to impress), you’ll get the chance to learn from some of marketing’s leading experts. You will also get to work on real-life campaigns for big brands and daily opportunities to meet top industry contacts who have some of the most sought-after graduate vacancies to fill.

What student programmes do we offer?

The IDM Student Competition – set up your student agency, get stuck into a real-life brief from a big name brand and, if you make it through as a finalist, you will be invited to pitch your ideas to the client face to face. This year’s brief is from The Economist and involves working on a campaign to improve female engagement.

The IDM Summer School – a week-long, intensive introduction to the marketing business. You’ll get to work on a live client brief for a top industry brand, visit a London advertising agency, and meet influential contacts – who could be your future employers!

The IDM Creative Data Academy- 30 students are invited to join us for a 3-day workshop to explore graduate career paths in data. Industry experts are on-hand to share their knowledge and provide insight into how big brands use data to create worldwide marketing campaigns.

Graeme Robertson Trust (GRT) – together with the GRT we run programmes for students interested in a creative career. This year we are working with the DMA Awards to launch the DMA Breakthrough Award. Students are invited to work on a creative brief for a major brand and winners will receive a paid internship at an advertising agency as well as a cash prize.
