Graduate Air Quality Consultant

Since joining AECOM in September 2018 as a Graduate Air Quality Consultant I have worked on a variety of projects ranging from individual tasks to larger multi-client projects. Within my role I focus on modelling the dispersion of air pollutants emitted from developments as well as monitoring real time pollution. My role gives me the opportunity to work on projects from start to finish and allows me the opportunity to take responsibility and ownership of that project, something that I deeply enjoy. In these types of projects, I have carried out baseline monitoring, then used the results from this monitoring to inform the models I build which are then ultimately used to model future air pollutant dispersion. This type of work has helped me develop my technical skills tremendously as I am able to understand the different components that make up a project and how these come together to form a completed project.

I have been heavily involved in Phase 2 and 3 of the Battersea Power Station Redevelopment project. The redevelopment involves the restoration of the old power station itself, the construction of around 3,500 new residential homes, a new tube station and office/retail space. Within the project I am responsible for overseeing dust pollution levels at the site which are produced as a consequence of the construction. This involves monitoring PM10 concentrations (particulate matter) at the site, discussing mitigation methods with site operatives when exceedances in PM10 are recorded and also organising the calibration and changing of monitors when needed. It is great to be so involved in such a large project, experience active on-site work and see the project develop for myself. I am continuously amazed at how much AECOM encourages the involvement of graduates in such large-scale projects.

My team are extremely helpful and encouraging, providing me with endless support. They also promote a healthy work-life balance. Alongside encouraging us to attend seminars and conferences for our professional development they also host many socials so that we have fun too.
