"Being a graduate on such a rotational programme means you can get exposure to some important work and senior employees that you wouldn't get in a normal role, but this can then be counteracted by getting given a lot of admin work at other times."

"Changing department frequently means meeting lots of new people and learning about new roles and how it fits into the big picture. It's a great opportunity to see how everything works and get involved in lots of different tasks."
Graduate, Edinburgh
"The quality of work has been good in terms of the variety that has been given to me and I have been exposed to different areas of the business. My work in finance has been primarily around producing monthly/quarterly management accounts and quarterly expenditure analysis."
Finance, Graduate, Edinburgh
"I've had very good work opportunities. Day to day I may be meeting with different companies, researching and writing stock reports or debating holdings and potential holdings."
Graduate, Edinburgh
"Research starts out as five-factor (industry, competitive advantage, management, financials and valuation) and you learn within each of these. The portfolios are run by different teams that have different philosophies and processes shaped by the fund managers."
Graduate, Edinburgh
"I am very satisfied with the quality of the work I am assigned. I examine companies, industries and investment ideas. My day-to-day work includes (but is not limited to) writing investment reports, meeting companies and attending stock discussions."

"I am responsible for producing the marketing materials that go out to pitch for new clients. This involves a lot of contact with various departments in the business and working closely with client contacts. The graduate scheme has really helped in this as I have a contact in every department after going around all the different areas and also have a solid understanding of these departments. I love being able to speak to a variety of people every day and learning about all the different strategies and products we offer."
Graduate, Edinburgh
"I'm very satisfied as my work is varied and challenging."
Graduate, Edinburgh
"My day-to-day role has varied massively due to the nature of my rotational grad scheme. My rotations have been interesting and it's been great to understand the intricacies of investment operations at Baillie Gifford. However, the quality of work assigned over the last two years has varied significantly. I've been interested and engaged by the work for the most part but, as departments inevitably face time pressures and short staffing at times, work assigned has sometimes been scarce or I've felt like I haven't made a meaningful contribution to the team."
Graduate, Edinburgh
"My primary role is to analyse companies. I have complete freedom to research what I want and how I want. I look for companies that have the means and ambition to meaningfully improve the world and potentially deliver excellent returns to investors as a result."
Entry level, Edinburgh
"My work is varied and intellectually stimulating. Every day is different. I spend most days in the office reading from various information sources, analysing investment opportunities, writing reports and placing investment deals. Other days are spent overseas attending conferences and meeting corporate management or external fund managers."
Mid level, Edinburgh

2015

"My role involves a range of tasks including: reviewing companies, writing reports, meeting management teams, meeting industry analysts, writing meeting notes and attending conference calls."
Graduate, Edinburgh
"My current responsibilities are manageable for the experience I have gained in the first three months. Other members of the team are willing to help solve problems and provide training where required."
Graduate, Edinburgh
"I am responsible for analysing potential investments, seeking out interesting sources of information and making recommendations/discussing others' recommendations."
Graduate, Edinburgh
"I write reports on companies, trying to gauge their long-term future profits."
