(based on 11 ratings in 2019)

2019

"I have had the chance to go to meetings internationally, present issues to clients, draft numerous documents and get involved with the business development activities in different departments."
Second year trainee, London
"I work in the banking department and I've helped on all sorts of deals in the time I've been here. This includes things from leveraged finance in the UK to projects in the Middle East and Africa to drafting guarantees for one of the worlds largest tech companies. I've also been able to contribute to some very large scale pro bono projects for the UN."
First year trainee, London
"It varies dramatically across departments and even between supervisors/trainees within departments. A lot of the work is great, but there could be more oversight that it is evenly distributed."
Second year trainee, London
"My role day to day includes drafting transaction documents, researching, communicating with clients and taking notes on calls. The work has been particularly interesting and the level of responsibility I have been given is high. From day one I have been encouraged to send emails to clients and draft various documents within complex transaction structures."
First year trainee, London
"I've been reviewing and drafting legal documents as well as researching interesting points of law and presenting my findings. Attending client meetings and calls to take notes and build relationships with the clients has also been a big part of what I'm doing."
Second year trainee, London
"As a trainee, my tasks are varied. Sometimes I'm bundling, other times I'm attending hearings and witness interviews etc."
First year trainee, London
"For a first-seat trainee, it's not bad at all. Sometimes the work is horribly mundane, for example being asked to put together a schedule of documents or coordinating uploads to a data room. I've also been given really interesting work reviewing first drafts of contracts and getting to take a red pen to all the ridiculous clauses coming from the other side, or really interesting bits of research. I've also been given matters to manage by myself (with supervision of course, and nothing massive), which is a great way to learn (if also terrifying). Its a bit of a mix that changes day to day but leans towards pretty good overall."

"The level of responsibility and support I have been given is high."

"I get to work on a huge variety of very interesting matters."
First year trainee, London
"The work that trainees get given and can get involved in varies hugely from department to department. Some have lots of responsibility while others have less due to the nature of the work. Some of the work is high quality while some is quite basic (which is to be expected for some trainee tasks)."
First year trainee, London
"Work varies from the typical trainee work (originals, signatures, proofreading etc) to the more advanced work(drafting, client and party communication) but all of it is high quality given the clients and transactions involved."
First year trainee, London
"I am encouraged to develop and grow as much as I want to in terms of the complexity of tasks and level of responsibility."
Second year trainee, London

2017

"This can vary greatly between departments. Some will give more difficult and challenging work while others are heavier on the bundling and menial tasks."
Second year trainee, London
"I'm given a high level of responsibility. I constantly feel a little bit out of my depth, which makes the role exciting, interesting and intellectually stimulating."
Second year trainee, London
"I have been given high levels of responsibility at times (more than I would expect as a first-seat trainee), which has been great. I am working on a cutting-edge, fast-moving matter, so the quality of work is very high and interesting."
First year trainee, London
"I get a good range of work, which ensures that no two days are the same. The tasks vary considerably between being project management based and more technical analytical work."
First year trainee, London
"I have been given as much responsibility as I can take on. I have gradually been given the trust and responsibility of liaising across the different Bakers offices. I am very seldom asked to complete mundane or repetitive tasks."
First year trainee, London
"It's good but varies from department to department. Some tasks can be boring (bundling) but others are very interesting (research tasks and attending hearings)."
Second year trainee, London

2015

"I have found that there is a high level of client interaction in my role, alongside responsibility with a good standard of training, and support from your supervisor and work providers."
First year trainee, London
"Although I do tend to have little client interactions, I do get very interesting work with high profile clients. My day-to-day responsibilities include project managing, looking at the timelines for proceedings and researching areas of law."
First year trainee, London
"I have had lots of client contact at work: travelling abroad to meet them, attending meetings and phone calls, dinners and direct email correspondence. I found that once the firm trusted me that I had a high level of general responsibility."
Second year trainee, London
"I have had reasonable levels of client interaction and autonomy at work. There is a lot of due diligence, and work is not always spread evenly. I frequently undertake project management and admin tasks."
First year trainee, London
"My levels of client interaction vary from department to department, but I feel that it is generally good. I have felt involved in the firm with my day-to-day responsibilities, and I have rarely felt as though I am just doing "trainee tasks"."
Second year trainee, London
"While I rarely deal with clients directly, I can listen in on client calls, and attend meetings with clients. My role is very varied and encompasses a wide variety of contentious and advisory work in investigations, funds and retail. I genuinely have very few days where I do the same thing as the day before."
First year trainee, London
"At work I have a lot of client interaction both through emails and over the telephone. Day-to-day responsibilities are drafting documents, being the main point of contact with clients, being responsible for post-completion matters and writing the monthly department update."
First year trainee, London
"I felt that I had a great level of responsibility throughout: I was regularly given associate level work and I was able to access all the support that I needed to do so. There are great opportunities to develop at the firm."
Second year trainee, London

2014

"I deal with clients frequently, but it would always be nice to do more. A much greater level of responsibility comes in co-ordinating whole aspects of a deal and instructing specialists across the globe - I'll phone colleagues across several continents almost every day."
First year trainee, London
"If you seek out responsibility, you can usually get it. I have had a lot of client interaction and attended numerous client meetings/court appearances/regulator meetings."
Second year trainee, London
"In some departments every single email needs to be checked before you send it, in others you have a lot more freedom. Client interaction depends very much on your supervisor and how they feel about your abilities."
Second year trainee, London
"High level of responsibility without feeling out of depth or that support is not available, client interaction varies by department but is encouraged universally, tasks range from the administrative to highly stimulating and intellectually challenging."
Second year trainee, London
"I get to draft agreements from start to finish and have lead negotiations with clients (being the only lawyer in the room!) - there is an incredible amount of responsibility given to trainees in some departments."
Second year trainee, London
"Day-to-day work is very organisational and can be admin heavy, with bits of drafting and legal research. I have had very limited client interaction, but have always felt part of a team."
First year trainee, London
"Good performance is rewarded with extra responsibility, with the more senior and experienced trainees often working on individual matters and files with minimal assistance. Client interaction is varied, although I have attended client functions and negotiated contracts directly with clients."
Second year trainee, London
"I have a lot of client interaction on a day-to-day basis. There are of course the typical trainee tasks, but on the whole as you progress through the seat your responsibility increases."
First year trainee, London
