2019

"There is a lot done to raise awareness about diversity issues and celebrate diversity."
Second year trainee, London
"One out of three partners are female and we have visible LGBT role models and commitment. There are flexible working hours for parents and Bristows has just increased its maternity package. Our diversity committee has regular events. For example, we had a lunchtime talk from a person with a disability about why diversity and disability awareness if important."
Second year trainee, London
"The firm has an active diversity committee and the Turing Network represents the firm's LGBTQ+ community."
Second year trainee, London
"The firm has good female partnership representation but there is a lack of representation of ethnic minorities. The firm seems to recruit a lot of people from similar backgrounds."
First year trainee, London
"The firm has a diversity committee that holds various events and also raises awareness of diversity issues. Diversity has a presence at the firm, whether this be in the form of LGBT-celebrating mugs or information notices on diversity issues."
First year trainee, London
"The diversity committee within Bristows is very active, but it is always the case that more could be done to improve diversity."

2018

"We have actively taken part in schemes to raise diversity and have partnered with Aspiring Solicitors to host events and give individuals from a range of backgrounds the opportunity to talk to members of the firm and hopefully encourage them to apply. Within our first week at the firm we received diversity training, which was very helpful in raising awareness."
First year trainee, London
"We have an active committee for diversity and another for LGBT. Both put on many events throughout the year (often educational as well as social). Everyone across the firm is encouraged to get involved in these."
Second year trainee, London
"We all take a diversity course during our training week and the firm is very keen for all employees to join diversity awareness groups or attend diversity events."
Second year trainee, London
"Fantastic. There is a diversity committee and regular LGBTQ+ events. I know some fee earners work flexible hours to suit childcare arrangements."
First year trainee, London
"We have a diversity committee that runs events and talks and we have diversity training as trainees."
First year trainee, London
"There is a dedicated diversity committee that has a broad focus on diversity initiatives within the firm, as well as more focused groups such as the Turing Network that brings together LGBTQ employees and allies at Bristows."
Second year trainee, London

2017

"Diversity with respect to women and LGBT is very good. There are a large number of female partners and many female associates. Diversity with respect to ethnic minorities could be better, although this is an area where the firm is trying to improve."
Second year trainee, London
"The firm has committees in most of these areas that are actively trying to ensure that these issues are at the forefront of people's minds. I cannot comment on any specific issues because I have not experienced any."
First year trainee, London
"The firm is small but we have a good quota of LGBT trainees and partners (around 20% of trainees and at least 10% of partners, two of whom are married to each other). There is an internal LGBT group called the Turing Network (named after Alan Turing) but, as we are a smaller firm, we collaborate with other firms as part of the LeGal BesT network. The firm has a few different projects related to social mobility but I have heard from colleagues that maternity pay could be substantially improved."

2016

"I have many female and LGBT colleagues. The recruitment committee are very alive to this issue."
First year trainee, London
"There is an active commitment to respecting diversity in all fields. I do think more could be done in terms of social mobility, although this is a comment about the legal profession generally rather than my firm specifically."
First year trainee, London
"Bristows works with a diversity charity and holds several events. It also had one of the first female managing partners in a City law firm, I think. Many of the equity partners are female."
Second year trainee, London
"There is an LGBT network and we collaborate with other firms because of our size."
London
"One of the most diverse firms in terms of male/female ratios (including on the partnership level) and with a proactive LGBT recruitment policy."
First year trainee, London
"Lots of emphasis on diversity, regular events and initiatives. A section of our induction was dedicated to the firm's approach to diversity."
First year trainee, London
