For example, retention rates were a bit lower in the latest rounds of qualifiers and it seems like that's because a lot of that intake wanted to qualify into litigation. The department is obviously ultimately limited as to how many it can take."

"It's difficult to be kept on if you want to do something relatively specialised - easy if you want to do Finance or Capital Markets. However that's fair enough since these are the bread and butter departments of the firm. It's difficult to qualify into certain things - for example Litigation and niche areas like Employment."
