As a graduate for Cushman & Wakefield, I’ve gained exposure to some of the industrial team’s largest clients. My role has given me the opportunity to liaise with them directly on a regular basis, building and maintaining professional relationships with major clientele.
I’ve been able to complete my own deals from start to finish, having the responsibility of negotiating with the tenant, reporting to the client and drafting the relevant paperwork. I’ve also been given the responsibility of working on my own valuations, aided by the support of my team.
Incoming graduates are paired with a graduate mentor from the year above and are assigned an APC Counsellor and Supervisor. Together they support you through the process. I found the mentor system really helpful and I still regularly keep in contact with mine.
Days are varied here. In an agency seat, a day can typically include working in the office, picking up new enquiries from potential tenants, liaising with solicitors and drafting marketing particulars. Outside the office, I’d typically view units with potential tenants, inspect properties and attend marketing meetings with clients to discuss future marketing strategies. A typical day in valuation can include inspecting a property we are instructed to value, assisting with report writing in the office and networking with clients. I’ve even worked on the valuation of a property being acquired by a listed REIT worth around £350m and lots of valuations across different classes in the healthcare sector too.
I’ve recently joined the new healthcare team set up with the goal of being a top three advisor in the next 3-5 years. It’s exciting to be in the team during a period of growth and change. All in all, I believe that property is an exciting industry with a whole variety of things to get involved with. And it’s this that really makes it a unique industry to work in.
