Summer Intern

During my internship, I was given responsibility from my first day. I was exposed to client contact in meetings, taking minutes and preparing drawings and project timescales from the first week. This responsibility really helped my learning experience because of its hands on nature.

My biggest challenge was being asked to give a presentation to all the Partners and Associates in the Project Management and Consultancy team on my time at Cushman and Wakefield and what I had learnt from the experience. This was particularly daunting, and a real challenge to prepare for mentally. However, it was also my greatest achievement. I was the only intern to do this and I realised the presentation had given me a great opportunity to let the people I had been working with learn about me and how I had experienced the work they had given to me.

I came into the process after my second year of university studying Project Management, and was instantly shown how what you learn in a classroom is merely the tip of the iceberg. I’ve seen the variety in day-to-day projects. And even my expectations of Cushman and Wakefield have been exceeded. I was already impressed by their excellent professional reputation, and on the internship I came to realise that this excellence shines through in every aspect, from their people through to their values.

The office atmosphere was extremely friendly, open and approachable. In fact, what I found the most impressive was their people, and how inviting and enjoyable they made the working environment. I was made to feel incredibly welcome and everyone took a keen and genuine interest in finding out more about me.

To be successful for this internship, it’s vital you have a strong knowledge on the profession, the company and what they are involved with. But most importantly, I think if you have a genuine interest and passion for this field, enjoy working with a wide variety of people and are eager to learn, you’ll do well throughout the process.
