About Innovate UK

Innovate UK is part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), a non-departmental public body funded by a grant-in-aid from the UK government.

We work with people, companies and partner organisations to find and drive the science, technology, business models, process and commercial innovations that will grow the UK economy - delivering productivity, higher value jobs and exports. Our aim at Innovate UK is to keep the UK globally competitive in the race for future prosperity

We run competitions where UK-based business or research organisation compete for government-backed funding to:

  • Research and develop a process, product or service
  • Test innovation ideas
  • Collaborate with other organisations

We link businesses with academics, government, funding and business opportunities as well as bringing companies together with people they wouldn’t usually meet, including new partners for commercial, technology and R&D collaborations

Our work so far

Since 2007, we have invested around £2.5 billion to help businesses across the country to innovate, with match funding from industry taking the total value of projects above £4.3 billion.

We have helped 8,500 organisations create around 70,000 jobs and added an estimated £18 billion of value to the UK economy.

Diversity & inclusion

At Innovate UK we are committed to encouraging diversity and inclusion in business innovation.

We want to find the best and most talented innovators from a diverse range of backgrounds, and provide them with the resources, advice and self-belief to succeed.

Our approach shines a spotlight where there is currently under representation in business innovation. We support and empower people to innovate, grow businesses, and in turn the UK economy.

Why work for us?

Across all councils at UKRI including Innovate UK, our people are a mix of talented creatives, scientists, engineers and other business professionals who help us to change the world for the better.

In return we offer a competitive package of pay and benefits and genuine career development opportunities.
