Having initially joined us on the sandwich year of his Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management degree at Oxford Brookes University, Rory went on to join us on our graduate programme.
“I was attracted to ISG because of their portfolio of buildings. Then I enjoyed my industrial placement so much that I stayed on in a part-time role while I finished my studies.
This was a great decision as it allowed me to apply the things I learned from my colleagues to my studies. I graduated with first-class honours and that’s in part because ISG gave me such invaluable practical experiences.
I was pleasantly surprised with how much responsibility I was given as a trainee. Within months, I was overseeing work packages worth over £100,000. This steep learning curve gave me a lot of confidence.
I decided to join the ISG graduate scheme for a number of reasons. Firstly, I’d built up really good relationships with people on the team and I’d started to prove I could handle increasing levels of responsibility. Then there was the range of training available which will underpin my progression – the company will fund my chartership training with RICS. The salary and benefits are really good too.
I’ve helped to build some innovative projects, including a facility that’s run by automated robots. But my biggest highlight so far was being empowered to close-out on a final account for a high value, high profile construction project.”
