Satisfaction with Work

9.4 / 10

(based on 7 ratings in 2019)

2019

"I'm very satisfied. From my first day as a trainee, I was given interesting work by both associates and partners who happily spent time explaining so I could learn as much in each seat as possible. As your training contract progresses, you are encouraged to seek out more complex work and responsibility to prepare you for life as an associate."
Second year trainee, London
"I've been highly satisfied. My work as a trainee is varied and often equivalent to junior associate work at other firms. You're given a high degree of autonomy to manage your work (and workload), which allows you the freedom to shape your training to your interests and develop strengths across a broad range of areas."
First year trainee, London
"Teams are kept lean so the quality of work for trainees is good."
First year trainee, London
"Tasks vary between departments but I am happy with the level of responsibility and the quality of the work."
Second year trainee, London
"Work varies from day to day but you are generally given as much responsibility as you show an interest in having. We're often given the opportunity to engage with clients and other parties directly."

2018

"I am regularly given entire fund documents such as the PPM (private placement memorandum) and LPA (limited partnership agreement) to mark up before letting more senior associates review my comments. I am also tasked with interacting with local counsel for advice required in foreign jurisdictions."
Second year trainee, London
"I've had a wide range of internal and client-facing work. Trainees are often able to delegate traditional trainee tasks and take on more substantive work that might be reserved for people who have been qualified for a year or two at other firms."
Second year trainee, London
"We do very little process/admin work as a result of the deals that we are mandated on compared to trainees at other firms. I'm treated as an associate and my opinion matters equally."
First year trainee, London
"The quality of work is second to none. The learning curve is incredibly steep but ultimately very rewarding as you get to work on high-quality (junior associate level) work as soon as possible. Given the small deal teams, trainees are required to get involved in drafting and managing transactions at all times."
Second year trainee, London
"You get to take on as much responsibility as you are willing to. Juniors are very responsive to your requests to take on work."
Second year trainee, London
"We get a wide range of work from bibling and proofreading to drafting documents, managing local counsel, leading checklist calls and liaising with clients."
Second year trainee, I'm currently on secondment in New York but I am based in London.

2017

"Very satisfied. I am the lead associate on all my deals, with support from amazing partners. The only negative is that there aren't always enough juniors to delegate to."
Second year trainee, London
"I'm really satisfied. From the beginning of my first seat I was managing document lists, drafting corporate authorisations, liaising with local counsel, drafting due diligence memos, incorporating companies, making companies' house filings, communicating with the client and also doing the more standard trainee tasks such as reviewing documents, making signature packs, compiling documents and bibling."
First year trainee, London
"This is one of the best things about the firm. The quality of work is amazing, even for trainees. Deal teams are small so we don't have junior associates taking all the good tasks. Genuinely high-quality work filters down to trainees and you constantly receive support to help you."
First year trainee, London
"I get varied work that usually stretches my ability to help me improve."
Second year trainee, London
"I have been able to work on some of the most interesting matters in my area and get some great experience. There can be the usual admin but nothing unexpected for a junior lawyer."
Other - NQ (end of qualification year), London

2016

"I get a very high level of responsibility. We definitely get the opportunity to do good-quality and high-level work. However, you also have to do a lot of the low-level admin work as some departments do not have legal assistants."
First year trainee, London
"We get associate-level work. There's no such thing as a 'trainee task'."
Second year trainee, London

2015

"I've been given a reasonable level of client interaction, more so in busier transactional seats than in advisory departments. Work I've been given has at times been objectively at NQ level or higher - work is not delegated to trainees solely on the basis of hierarchy; if you are capable then you are given the opportunity."
Second year trainee, Hong Kong (seconded from London)
"I have been placed on active matters from day-one and given plenty of opportunities to correspond with clients and attend calls, etc. I often find myself working closely with partners and associates of all levels."
First year trainee, London
"I have just started my training contract, but have already seen a range of work and had contact with lawyers in the overseas office, if not client contact."
First year trainee, London
"I work for various associates and partners. Whilst there is a certain amount of more administrative work to be done, there are plenty of opportunities to push myself. I have a surprising amount of interaction with the clients and am happier for it."
Second year trainee, London
"Currently in the debt finance seat, my work has varied from corresponding with counter-parties to obtain documents to drafting board resolutions and conditions precedent. In week one I was sent to client offices to arrange document execution. Client interaction is at all levels in debt finance, which is a rare occurrence at such a junior level."
First year trainee, London
