Business and Project Management Graduate

Defence is an industry that I am passionate about and extremely interested in. In addition to being involved with the development of world class technologies, working within defence gives me an opportunity to mix with a range of different people with an even greater range of talents. Therefore, when a university friend of mine who had previously done a placement year informed me that MBDA was hiring for its Early Careers Programme, I jumped at the opportunity to apply. The application involved online tests before I was invited to an assessment centre and interview.

As a B&PM manager I will be involved in making sure that programmes are delivered on time, within budget and to the required standard. This requires many skills such as; stakeholder engagement, risk and opportunity management and decisive decision making to name but a few. However, being on the ECP is unique as it has also allowed me to undertake placements external to my core function in order to gauge an understanding of the business. As part of this, I joined the UK MD’s Office team where I learnt about the governance of the organisation and got involved with tasks that have far reaching effects across the business.

I have recently been on the internal Project Management Foundation Course which is the first step in my journey to attaining professional project manager status. In addition to professional training, I have also been on a number of personal development courses which have enhanced my understanding of diversity & inclusion, powers of persuasion and overcoming adversity.

The most rewarding piece of work that I have done so far was my contribution to the B&P Road show and the following presentation of feedback which I had to deliver to senior managers within the function. By being asked to do this, it made me feel both valued and involved.

The most enjoyable part of being at MBDA is the variety of people I get to work with. Everyone is different and brings a range of ideas and experiences with them. It is this that breads a culture of innovation and improvement.
