"Attitudes towards women are improving but there are still issues (as expected in a heavily male office). It is not a particularly diverse environment at the moment. Maternity leave is close to the minimum, which is not great, but recruitment is unbiased."

I think progress on this is hampered by the fact that senior roles are generally filled internally so diversity in senior management reflects diversity in software engineering 15/20/25 years ago, which wasn't so great."

"The company is largely male, as is generally the case in the software industry. Management supports events to promote more women in software and is committed to trying to recruit more women into technical roles. HR is taking a particularly strong line on diversity issues and is driving change in the recruitment process to reflect this. There's a network for LGBT employees that was created recently."

"There's definitely room for improvement in the diversity in the office. There is a diversity steering group in the company trying to improve this but no major results so far. Nevertheless, all employees are treated with respect and there are very few alpha-male personalities in the company. There's an internal group for LGBT employees within the company and a good maternity leave policy."

"Software engineering is, of course, a sector that suffers from a lack of diversity and, although Metaswitch does follow this pattern, I think they do more than others to improve this. The company is involved in a large number of initiatives to improve access for minorities (women, ethnic minorities, LGBT etc), including charities starting at a young school age. We sometimes invite primary schools in for tours and for 'code club'. I think the company also provides a nice atmosphere. As a woman at the company, I've never felt uncomfortable to be in the minority."

"The company is not very diverse up the management line at the moment. However, this problem is being corrected at the grad level and I expect this to fix things further over the coming years. The maternity and paternity leave is not generous, which is a problem. However, there are good points. We can openly discuss diversity and have no worry about discrimination over our gender or race etc."

"There are very few women and people of colour here. That said, I haven't encountered any overt sexism, homophobia or racism. People recognise that it's an issue and we're trying to recruit more women and minority candidates. We have a forum for discussing diversity issues, an LGBTQ+ network and an internal diversity blog. Our maternity leave policy isn't great and only meets the minimum legal requirements."
