I completed an internship at Optiver in the summer of 2018, and received a job offer upon completion. Living in Amsterdam for the summer was a lot of fun, and the project I was working on felt like a genuinely useful piece of technology to the company. Sure enough, when I started working here I found that my internship project had been rolled out across the trading floor and was used every day by the traders.
When I started the job, for the first two months we had lectures on economics and finance every morning, covering everything a trading firm is involved in, from the basics of order books to options pricing theory. On the technology side of things, my team have a very open culture where each person is keen to learn about areas others are working on. I've been working on code running on the Brazilian markets, and have been learning through experience, working my way from fixing simple issues to more complex ones. I've also learned a lot through broad ongoing conversations with team members sitting next to me.
A lot is clearly expected of all employees here, but the weekly massages, world-class coffee, and in-house chefs contribute a lot to keeping the work environment relaxed.
