Green Initiatives

7.7 / 10

(based on 15 ratings in 2019)

2019

"There have been a number of reasonably successful initiatives (reusable cups, for one) that feel like they are doing something. There is also a reasonably active environmental committee."
First year trainee, London
"There are lots of green initiatives at the firm and everyone is aware of reducing their paper and plastic usage. There are also guest 'sustainable' chefs and presentations about environmental issues that are well attended and supported by the firm."
Second year trainee, London
"The firm has done very well in providing reusable tupperware and coffee cups in the staff restaurant and at the coffee bar. It has also recently committed to removing plastic bottles from the restaurant. However, the firm's catering is still heavily meat/fish-focused, which is disappointing given the enormous impact that the meat industry in particular has on the environment. There is a serious lack of vegetarian/vegan options."
First year trainee, London
"The firm puts an emphasis on reducing its carbon footprint and incorporates this into the introductory training. However, operating the building 24/7 puts inherent limits on such efforts."
First year trainee, London

"The firm has a genuine commitment to being more environmentally conscious and friendly."
First year trainee, London
"There are some green initiatives (we have reusable coffee cups for example) but there's little effort to make office paper-free."
First year trainee, London
"We got rid of disposable coffee cups and have recycling bins for food. There was talk of having oyster cards available at reception rather than taking taxis for all journeys, as far as I am aware this has not yet materialised but might do soon."
Second year trainee, London
"Recyclable bamboo cups have been distributed to everyone and the cafe now only gives out recyclable 'borrow cups'. There are no more disposable cups in the building."
First year trainee, London
"The firm has made big steps towards reducing its electricity usage and other carbon waste."
First year trainee, London
"I think that recycling is done really well in the firm and I do feel well informed about the ways in which I could work to help improve our carbon footprint."
First year trainee, London
"The head partner in my group is huge on this and there is a lot of effort on recycling."
First year trainee, London
"As a law firm, the paper trail is quite large and sometimes unavoidable. We're moving away from paper bibles and towards e-bibles, which is making a big change but court bundles continue to be a big waste."
Second year trainee, London

2016

"We have dedicated recycling bins and are trying to reduce paper waste."
First year trainee, London
"Committed environmental team introducing systemic changes (eg recycling bins in every coffee pod) but the environment is not at the forefront of everyone's mind (though with systemic change this is gradually improving as everyone gets used to always recycling, for example)."
First year trainee, London
"Active green committee and an intricate system of recycling bins that is so sophisticated that it is at times difficult to discern which one to use."
Second year trainee, London
"We have separate bins in the coffee pods and the firm does keep track of its carbon footprint and how it can be further reduced."
Second year trainee, London
"Staff are encouraged to take public transport where we can. The lights are all on timer systems and all waste is recycled (including waste produced by contractors). The kitchens are equipped with biodegradable, environmentally-friendly washing up liquid."
First year trainee, London
"We make an effort at recycling and are encouraged to take tubes over taxis."

First year trainee, London
"The firm cares about and makes significant attempts to lower its carbon footprint. I am very proud to be part of a firm that actually seems to care about this rather than just making vague noises about it."
Second year trainee, London
"There appears to be a strong incentive to cut emissions and waste throughout the firm's business."
First year trainee, London

"The firm has made a commitment to reduce carbon emissions by 40%. Other initiatives include: recycling bins on every floor, cycle to work scheme, green taxi options."
First year trainee, London

"Apparently one of the greenest firms (if not offices) in the City. The firm places much importance on its carbon footprint."
Second year trainee, London
"We were recently placed first in a law firm league table on the subject and there is a specific Environmental Committee."
Second year trainee, London
"Several events and initiatives to raise awareness. Separate bins for recyclable and non-recyclable goods. Locally sourced food. Lights that switch off automatically when not used for a certain time, etc."
Newly qualified solicitor, London
"The firm is very environmentally friendly. Almost every bin is a recyclable bin and the kitchen staff recycle their waste. The firm has received praise for its green initiatives in the past."
Second year trainee, London
"We had an awareness session, we get emails every so often, but the Keep Cups are the most popular initiative where you get a discount on hot drinks from the café if you use your Keep Cup!"
