After researching various career paths, I realised that consultancy was my ideal career due to the variation of work, constant problem solving & the continuous learning you receive. I felt the Sopra Steria graduate programme would be good for my long term success due to the rotations across roles and sectors.
So far I’ve worked on a proposition case for the Ministry of Justice, and helped to deliver a massive project for the Home Office where I gained experience in Project Management, Systems Testing, and Business Analysis. I’ve also spent time in Project and Portfolio Management for the utilities sector, where I had exposure to multiple accounts across the country. Recently, I’ve moved over to the Business Transformation Consultancy team within the Commercial Sector, and I’m currently working with easyJet.
I’ve had fantastic exposure to the senior leadership team. I’ve made strong connections with multiple directors, including ones where I haven’t necessarily worked in. I’ve also had the opportunity to demonstrate one of our systems to the CEO, deputy CEO and CFO. The culture here really encourages you to go out and make these connections, as everyone is very open and welcoming.
When I first joined, my initial goal was to reach Consultant level within a year of joining and that is something that I’m extremely proud to say I achieved. I’ve matured a lot as a person within that time and my next two goals are to carry on with my development and hopefully reach Senior Consultant within the next year.
Based on my experience, the recipe for success here is to really push yourself and always be open to new opportunities. Even more importantly, you need to be confident in your own ability and always be yourself.
