"We hold lots of events and there is a drinks trolley every month in my current team. You can sense some hierarchy but this is mitigated as everyone is so friendly. It is common for the team to cooperate and the whole firm is ready to assist if anyone ever needs advice."
First year trainee, London
"There's a good atmosphere around the office as well as many internal and external networking opportunities."
Second year trainee, London
"Trainees are given the opportunity to work directly with partners and sit in offices with them. There is a real sense of teamwork and camaraderie. People of all levels work late when required and everyone is very friendly and willing to answer questions. The firm organises a number of social events for trainees, which is appreciated. We have a trainee dinner every six months and a number of events are organised during placement schemes. The firm also organises a professional networking event for trainees, which gives us the opportunity to invite our friends and contacts from other industries."
Second year trainee, London
"The partners are generally friendly and approachable and it is common to work closely with them. All the teams I have sat in have been welcoming and sociable. There are also strong relationships between trainees and regular social events."
Second year trainee, London
"People are genuine and kind and we have a great time in and outside of the office. The trainees are close and provide a very strong support system. I have been lucky that senior people have taken an interest in mentoring me and helping me progress."

"The firm is very friendly and has lots of socialising events."
Second year trainee, London
"The hierarchy is certainly less visible here than in other firms that I have experienced. I have generally found that people are happy to help regardless of their seniority."
First year trainee, London
"There's a friendly and open culture. Everyone is very approachable from the senior partners to the PAs and there is a good team spirit. There are also a few great trainee events but there could be more."
First year trainee, London
"The firm is far less hierarchical than most and most people are friendly and easy to get on with. There are generally high levels of cooperation, especially when one person is particularly busy. People are generally good at sharing the load and most people in the firm are very sociable. Trainee sociability is very dependent on the intake though."
First year trainee, London
"The firm is very sociable and we have a lot of opportunities to meet people in different practice groups. There is inevitably a hierarchy but everyone I have met so far is very approachable regardless of their position at the firm."
First year trainee, London
"The firm has a diverse and inclusive culture. There is no obvious sense of hierarchy and there is an open-door policy that makes it easy to get to know the people around you. The firm hosts a good number of social events internally, which helps to build relationships within the firm."
First year trainee, London
"Everyone is very approachable and willing to help and support you."

"The firm has a lovely culture; it is friendly without there being too much pressure to socialise. Doors are definitely open for you to ask questions."
First year trainee, London
"Stephenson Harwood has a good work culture. A sense of inclusion and support is felt at all times when working. Out of hours there is good social culture. There are many social activities organised and the trainee social committee really tries hard to organise drinks and events."
First year trainee, London
"Colleagues are friendly across all levels. It would be nice if social events outside of the office were more frequent so that we could get to know them even better."
First year trainee, London
"People are very sociable in and out of the office. They are also realistic in their expectations of you; 'face-time' is not something that occurs."
First year trainee, London
"Generally everyone trusts you to get your own work done and manage your own time but are supportive should you need any extra help. I have a lot of interaction with partners in the practice group, often working directly with them which really makes you feel like you are doing important work rather than just admin."

"The culture is great - there is no pressure to socialise but opportunities are there if you want them. There is no hierarchy between the staff socially at all. Lots of teamwork."
First year trainee, London
"In the office the culture is very friendly and familial. Relatively non-hierarchical and open. There are fairly regular team drinks after work and a concerted effort to have drinks every few weeks with other trainees. Client events are also fairly regular."
First year trainee, London
"In my opinion there are not enough firm social events or clubs but the trainees do socialise informally. Partners are generally approachable and I regularly work directly for a partner."
Second year trainee, London
"There is no macho culture of staying at the office late to look good. That said, people work to the job and late finishes are an occasional occupational hazard. The people are generally very friendly and considerate - I am yet to meet anyone I do not get along with at the firm. Social events are sparse but crop up from time to time. The trainees often meet for drinks on Thursday or Friday."
First year trainee, London
"The firm is mostly very friendly. Quite a strong sense of hierarchy - everyone knows what sort of rank everyone else is - but partners and senior associates are very approachable. Some in-fighting for fees but most are good at cooperating. Some teams better than others at socialising. Trainee social events are good."
Second year trainee, London
"The firm has a genuine 'open-door' policy and people are generally very friendly. Some departments are more hierarchical than others. There is a reasonable amount of trainee socialising (we will normally meet up at lunch and for drinks after work on Fridays). There are some, but not many, departmental social events. Firm-wide events (the annual Christmas party and firm quiz) are great fun and inclusive of trainees."
First year trainee, London
"Partners are very accommodating and there are opportunities to get involved with firm-related activities away from the desk."
Second year trainee, London
"The work culture is very healthy in that you don't stay late unless you have to. Because it's small there is minimal hierarchy, in that you will often be working directly with a partner. There's not a huge amount of after-hours socialising though - everyone is keen to go home when they can."
Second year trainee, London
"There is a hierarchy, though if trainees have to interact with partners, the partners are always approachable and amenable. There are a number of sports teams and other outside-firm activities which can boost the after-hours culture. Organised and impromptu trainees drinks and events are also a regular feature of life at Stephenson Harwood!"
