What is it like working for TJX Europe?

I have never encountered a working atmosphere quite like the one at TJX Europe. The business has worked hard to develop and foster a unique culture that is open, friendly and down-to-earth; because being happy at work and all getting along is a must for effective and efficient teamwork. The company's unique business model is proving increasingly attractive and so it has been successfully expanding across Europe and around the world. This means that the work can be fast-paced and challenging, but who doesn't love a good challenge?!

Tell me about your career progression/on-going development with TJX Europe.

TJX Europe places a huge emphasis on developing its employees. The company nurtures talent by guiding, supporting and stretching you to become the best you can be. It feels encouraging and energizing that the company wants to help you reach your potential.
The graduate schemes are an extension of the company's ability to nurture and develop talent. I feel fortunate that as grads, the scheme really is designed with the objective of learning in mind; the key aims being to understand the Loss Prevention function and the strategies implemented to reduce business loss, as well as absorbing the concept of off-price. The two year programme has been devised so that when it comes to an end, we should hit the ground running in a specialist role, with the intention to progress further and gain leadership experience.

How much responsibility are you given?

The first year of the Loss Prevention scheme is purposefully intense in learning. Not only do you discover a diverse world of security and business protection roles, but you also get to grips with the company's unique business model. Consisting of a rotation in each different department, it touches on Loss Prevention in the supply chain, distribution, e-commerce and store environments. You also shadow teams that focus on analysing, preventing and investigating crime (i.e. organised and fraud). As a result, you see first-hand the commitment and efforts made to ensure asset, brand and associate safety.

The second year of the scheme allows for the putting into practice of first year learns, as well as for further development. It consists of revisiting first year rotations that you found intriguing and want to gain a deeper understanding of. Throughout, you are given increasing responsibility and onus in projects and tasks. You will also be encouraged to keep building your network, to keep putting cultural competencies into practice and to start focusing on leadership skills.

What is a typical working day like?

There isn't really a `typical` day at TJX. A working day could be filled with routine tasks, diverse project work, meetings within Loss Prevention or with other functions, visits to suppliers, stores or processing centres around Europe, shadowing specialists and taking courses or attending workshops; not to mention networking and maintaining healthy relationships with business partners.
No two days are the same. For me, that?s what keeps work fresh and exciting!
