About UK Power Networks

Did you boil a kettle to make a coffee this morning? Or charge your iPod? Or turn on the lights while you brushed your teeth? Have you jumped on the Tube recently or jetted off from one of the major airports in the South East? All of these events could not have occurred without UK Power Networks.

UK Power Networks distributes more than a quarter of the UK’s electricity through its networks of substations, underground cables and overhead lines making sure the lights stay on across London, the South East and the East of England, regardless of who customers pay their energy bills to. A range of other companies deliver power to the rest of the country.

Our Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) accredited Graduate Engineering Programme is designed to help you develop the skills you need to become a Chartered Engineer. The Commercial programme is designed to give you a strong understanding of the commercial side of the business whilst offering you valuable hands-on experience at the same time. You will be assigned a mentor and buddy as part of all of our training programmes to help you with your development.

Throughout your first year you will have a home base location in one of our three licence areas covering London, the South East or the East of England. You will divide your time during this year between your home base and shorter rotational placements in other business areas.

In your second year, you'll then progress into your first supported role in the business which will see you based at your original home base location. During this time, you will continue to be part of the graduate programme and will receive all of the mentoring and support you need to ensure you succeed.

You will gain valuable work experience – not to mention the opportunities you need to gain the professional qualifications to become a future leader in your field. What's more, if you join our engineering programme we'll provide you with a Chartered Engineer mentor, as well as membership of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET).

At the end of the two years, you will then have the choice to continue working in your home base location and business area or apply to other suitable opportunities across the business. Our graduate career progression policy will ensure that you continue to be supported in your professional development.

Over the course of the programme, you'll be reviewed on a quarterly basis to monitor your progress and development. You will also have access to exciting opportunities such as attending external industry conferences and site visits.

The Graduate Alumni Network group will allow you to meet with previous and current graduates in the business as well as having the opportunity to build your own internal network.
