"It's generally friendly and dedicated to your development as a lawyer and person. The firm can be hierarchical, but I've always experienced an open-door policy and never had issues speaking to partners about deals or my development. Socialising depends on teams but there is an active effort to organise drinks/dinners every few weeks. There's strong cooperation among teams and I've also seen a lot of cooperation between senior associates at the same level (asking for advice or second opinions etc), which is very encouraging."

"There's a very friendly and collegiate atmosphere in which trainees are able to offer their suggestions and contribute to internal discussions. Partners are always happy to have a chat if you have any questions. The social scene is not as busy as at other firms, but most people would prefer to get out of the office when they can."

"We have a friendly culture with lots of very personable people. Everyone says good morning in the lift and holds doors open for other colleagues. These little things go a long way."

"The culture at our firm sets us apart from other US firms. The teams are friendly, approachable and very sociable. Employees at Weil have personalities and are often friends as well as colleagues."

"The culture of our firm is very professional with a clear hierarchy that's usually based on years of experience and position held. Teamwork is excellent and often cross-departmental, allowing trainees to work with a broad range of other associates and partners. There is a very limited social culture at the firm (with the exception of some teams)."

"There's very little hierarchy at the firm and everyone is pretty friendly. The partners are hands on and know what their teams are up to. Everyone's pretty friendly and accommodating if you need to be out of the office for personal matters. When one of us is on annual leave, we all try to pitch in and ensure that they are enjoying their time off. Most teams tend to be tightly-knit and regularly organise team lunches, drinks and out-of-office team-building sessions."

"There are lots of opportunities to work directly with partners. There are often socials and drinks trolleys, but there is a lot of variation between teams."

"We have friendly teams within a discernible hierarchy."
First year trainee,
"It's a very fun place to work. Everyone is happy to help you out and easy to approach."
First year trainee,
"Everyone is very friendly and always willing to help if you have any issues (particularly when you first start). Outside of the office, a few trainees are usually willing to go for dinner or drinks and the small size of the office means that the trainees are close and friendly as a whole."

"There is a lot of socialising, the firm actively encourages it. The hours can be long but that is expected and it's noticed when you work extra hours. Trainees are shown appreciation for this."

"Hard-working but good working atmosphere. Different teams socialise to a different extent but most trainees are sociable. Traditional law firm hierarchy (trainees, associates, partners). Small size of the office breaks down the hierarchy though, and most people know most people."
Second year trainee, London
"The firm has a friendly and cooperative culture and makes a lot of effort for its social events. This is despite the fact that our long and demanding hours mean that attendance is sometimes difficult."
Second year trainee, London
"There is a friendly feel about the firm. I do not find it overly hierarchical and I have worked directly with partners several times. The social aspect is also very good, with events that are always well attended."

"The culture at the firm varies by team a lot, however, overall it is not hierarchical. The firm overall has a good ethos, such as its charity work. There could be more social activities: partners could take teams out more often, there are no retreats as a firm and some departments don't have Christmas lunches, either. The nature of the firm itself is quite serious and work-hard, but the people are down to earth and friendly."
Second year trainee, London
"There is quite a flat hierarchy on a day-to-day basis here, the firm is friendly and professional: people socialise but have lives outside of work."
Second year trainee, London
"The firm stands out for its positive and enthusiastic culture. Everyone in the office, at every level, is willing to offer support and engage in everything that is offered up: be it billable work, pro bono matters or charitable/social/community events. There is no sense of hierarchy at all, with partners and trainees working side by side, and developing good working relationships. No one is unapproachable and those with greater experience share it openly with others. There are frequent opportunities to socialise amongst colleagues, although some practice areas do so more than others. From my personal experience, the trainees and junior associates socialise a lot on Friday nights, as well as over the weekend, and often organise trips or events together."
First year trainee, London
"The culture at the firm is variable between teams, the latter are small enough to allow everyone to know each other, to ensure that the hierarchy is flattened. There are also small, close-knit teams on deals."
First year trainee, London
"The office has an open culture which is not excessively hierarchical, but it is sufficiently so to ensure the firm runs smoothly. The firm is generally sociable both inside and outside of work, although this does vary by department."
Second year trainee, London
"Most people are friendly and helpful in the firm, which has an open door policy. It does depend on the department that you are in, but I found that the firm is fairly social."

"There is a social side to the firm outside of work, but this is not necessarily a regular thing. That said, everyone is friendly and the different teams can be incredibly social together. Although everyone is respectful of others, I don't think there is a real hierarchical feel within the office - there is genuinely an 'open-door' policy which applies to all. Teamwork is excellent, and it's very easy to feel comfortable in these surroundings."
First year trainee, London
"I have found that all the teams I have worked with are well managed and create a pleasant and productive working environment. There is an 'open-door' policy and the vast majority of partners are approachable and take time to speak to junior members of the team. The support assistance from secretaries and central services is excellent. Some teams are quieter and have a more 'traditional' working environment, whereas other teams are more sociable (both in and out of the office). This largely depends on the partners in the team. There are plenty of opportunities to socialise/network across the office if you want to."
Second year trainee, London
"Everyone knows each other and is very friendly. The support teams, lawyers and partners all mix together very easily and there is not really a sense of hierarchy: partners are generally very approachable and easy going and like to be asked questions/be involved in training, etc. - two of my supervisors have been partners. The firm has a social committee and regularly organises events (e.g. summer party, winter party, drinks on the office's roof terrace, departmental drinks, regular sports and charity events)."
Second year trainee, London
"The firm is very friendly and has a true 'open-door' policy. People are supportive and always ready to answer any questions."
