Laing O'Rourke
About us
We are Laing O’Rourke. We design, manufacture, engineer and build iconic buildings and complex infrastructure projects used by millions of people every day. We’re challenging the industry with innovative design and delivery techniques. We’re changing the way we work, using the very latest digital tools and platforms. And we’re always looking to create structures that will help build a better future for everyone.
We are proud to work on some of the most prestigious projects in the UK and around the world from the Crossrail (Europe’s largest infrastructure project) to Hinkley Point C (in Somerset) and the Manchester Airport extension.
Our success depends on our engineering excellence, together with the adoption of new technologies and a sustained investment in talent, especially our early careers programmes for students, graduates and apprentices.
We are known for our innovation, but also our belief in growing talent. We believe in hiring and developing the very best people in the industry, challenging them to find and follow a better way, and deliver excellence for our clients whilst leaving a lasting legacy for the communities in which we operate. We have an ongoing commitment to bring more people into this industry, and grow the diversity of our own business.
Diversity for us is really important. Our business thrives on fairness, inclusion and respect in all areas of our operations, and we know that when people are free to be themselves at work, they perform much better – and are much happier. We also know that the industry needs more diversity, and we are keen to make our organisation even more diverse than it is now. So we run programmes to get more school children interested in construction and engineering, as well as encouraging a wide range of people to apply for our programmes.
Graduate opportunities
Each year we recruit for a wide range of roles from Civil Engineering to Finance, Construction Management to Quantity Surveying. Applications are open from September to early November, with assessment centres in the New Year.
We also run a Summer Placement programme which comprises of an 8-12 week programme of on-the-job experience, structured training and weekly learning sessions. Here you can gain valuable hands-on experience and develop skills for the future. It’s a really flexible scheme, helping you to make the most of your Summer both professionally and personally.

The day has been inspirational and a great reminder of why I chose to study engineering.
Student
I enjoyed meeting with the companies and hearing their advice, especially on application process as I will be applying for graduate jobs.

It was delightful to see so many high calibre female engineering students who had made the effort to research our company and prepare questions for the networking session. The event was very well organised, informative and fun. This is our third year attending the event and we look forward to getting involved again next year.
National Grid
Great experience that really opened my eyes into what impact females can make within engineering.

Good combination of chances to network/ask questions and hear from companies directly.

I have been inspired by some leading ladies. It makes me realise what you can achieve.

Speaking to graduates and recruiters in such a relaxing environment was such an insightful opportunity- so many of my questions were answered, even those I didn't know I had.
Student
A thoroughly enjoyable event, with very intelligent and driven students. The students are from a mixture of years so proved great for our current and future pipeline, and company branding. You also walk away with the details of circa 100 top quality students, so a very unique event.
AECOM
We have attended the Future Female Engineering event for a number of years now; it is a great opportunity for employers to meet with interested and motivated female engineering students. Throughout the event students have the opportunity to get to know their preferred employers, hear what is like to be a graduate in the company and also gain helpful hints and tips on the application process. The event is a great opportunity for students and employers to network across a number of informal and fun sessions!
BAE Systems
A fantastic way to meet other female engineers, be inspired to pursue a career in the sector and learn more about the application process.

Much more relaxed atmosphere compared to any previous event I've attended which made it easier to build relationships with employers.

Everything was great, the overall vibe puts you in a good mood and even if you come in scared and unsure about what to do, that quickly goes away.
Student
It has made me realise that engineering is quite an open sector and that there is a lot of scope to enter a lot of areas.
