What can I expect?
Future Female Engineers is primarily an employability networking event, but you won’t find employers at stands handing out leaflets and reeling off the usual spiel. Instead you’ll have indepth conversations with representatives from top engineering employers, whether they are on the recruitment team, graduate scheme or board of directors, and you’ll take part in unique interactive sessions, all aimed to help you kick-start your career.
Is this a fast track to graduate schemes and internships?
Yes and no. Remember that this event is primarily an employability networking event: you will get first-hand information from recruiters on what roles they offer, advice on their application processes, and useful hints and tips that you can’t find online. It will then be your responsibility, however, to follow up with the contacts you speak to and use all of the knowledge you have gained to help you complete the applications. It has been known for previous attendees to be fast tracked through an event partner’s application process, so make sure you update your CV to mention that you attended Future Female Engineers or include it in your applications.
What will I be doing on the day?
We’ll group you with other attendees (usually a maximum of ten students per group) to work on team challenges, which are a great opportunity to showcase teamwork, decision-making and communication skills. You’ll also participate in skills sessions with recruiters, who’ll give you the inside scoop on applications, interviews, assessment centres and how to create your personal brand so you stand out from the crowd.
What is the dress code for the event?
Smart business wear. Please do not wear t-shirts, denim or trainers (even black ones!)
Will I get my travel costs to the event be reimbursed?
Yes we will make a contribution to your travel costs to get to the event which will be considered on a case by case basis.
Is there a charge for the event?
No, the event is completely free to attend!
