At Glencore we offer exciting graduate and associate level opportunities in London as well as in New York and Singapore in the trading field. We are one of the world’s leading marketers of physical commodities.
We physically source commodities and products from our global supplier base – and sell them to customers all over the world. This means transporting commodities by sea, rail and truck, storing them, processing them, and delivering them to the time, quality and specification that our customers need. Through these marketing activities, we set ourselves apart from companies who focus mainly on commodity production.
Glencore is committed to its net-zero ambition by 2050 to help us to further drive long-term value and make a positive contribution to society. The Glencore trading division is diversifying its product offering to Environmental Products, including power and carbon to support sustainability and a reduced total emissions footprint.
Based within our dynamic trading environment, our training programme is structured to bring out the very best in you and give you the opportunity to excel in a commercial role within Oil, Gas and Environmental Products, working alongside the very best people in the business.
You will be trusted with individual responsibility from day one in a complex and demanding role, primarily within Risk or Analytics. Other commercial areas of the business include Operations. This approach equips our graduates with the highest levels of professionalism, personal ownership and commercial aptitude - the key ingredients for a successful career with Glencore
We value diversity, and respect people from all backgrounds.
Our risk managers work closely with front line traders and operators. Risk managers maintain physical and derivative exposure whilst assessing the accuracy and validity of mark-to-markets in order to produce profit and loss reports and risk metrics. They provide analysis ensuring that hedging is executed in line with our trading team’s strategy.
Accuracy, confidence and exceptional analytical skills are key attributes in this area of our business. As a key member of the trading team, excellent communication and relationship management skills are required to maintain an independent view whilst also adding value by providing accurate data directly to the trading desk.
Our trading analysts work directly with our traders to evaluate fundamental global market supply and demand across the barrel utilizing mathematical and programming techniques. Our analysts work closely with traders, shipping and IT, developing tools in order to deliver value to the business.
Forecasting market trends and strategic global thinking are important skills. A good analyst will proactively form an independent view of the market and present clear and concise data to support this opinion. This data will be used to add value and inspire commercial strategy within the trading teams.
Our trading operators work alongside our physical traders and are responsible for the logistical and financial execution of each contract. This is a highly commercial role where attention to detail and precise communication are paramount. The operator has a material impact on every stage of the trade, from management of the shipping and transportation, legal and contractual considerations through to financial risk analysis and final settlement of the deal.
A trading operator has a direct financial impact on the trading book and will work closely with the trading, chartering and financial teams in order to ensure that commercial value is maximised as well as mitigating operational risk.
We provide a mentorship programme, which allows for new graduates to be paired with an experienced Glencore employee and receive guidance, advice and support on aspects such as soft skill development, knowledge sharing, industry insights, career trajectory and personal satisfaction.
Our schemes combine structured, professional development with on-the-job experience. To complement the above roles, we provide introductory and touch point training with industry specialists to support on-the-job learning.
