We are seeking a Graduate Investment Analyst to support our ambitious growth plans and help MMV execute strategic investments in early-stage start-ups.

Mott MacDonald Ventures (MMV) is the Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) unit of Mott MacDonald. We invest in visionary founders that strive to enhance our built environment. The firm’s investments are strategically driven by our client’s problems or opportunities.  Our investment focus areas include AI, digital and advanced computing, energy and environment technologies, robotics and smart machines . We intend to grow our existing portfolio with ambition to expand internationally to ANZ and the US.

Primary role responsibilities will include investment sourcing, due diligence support, collaborating internally with Mott MacDonald business units and externally with other organisations and developing a strategic understanding of what technologies are required to address client problems.

For those looking to become Chartered, this role would accrue credits in the innovation space. You will be able to demonstrate your ability to develop appropriate solutions to engineering problems using new or existing technologies, or through innovation, creativity, and change.

This will involve: 

  • Collaboration: across Mott MacDonald business units to develop close working relationships with technical and commercial stakeholders to enable development of partnership plans and strong understanding of clients’ problems and industry trends.
  • Analyse clients’ trends and insights using interviews with the business units and plans from the sector, practice, account and industry. Use these insights to guide deal sourcing and screening.
  • Deal sourcing: develop stable, high-quality deal flow via networks, conferences, industry contacts and other channels. Support the screening of the deals.
  • Market analysis: perform thematic research on relevant sectors, spot future technology trends, and scan for start-ups that can add strategic value. This will include networking with peers in the industry.
  • Align MM clients’ needs with the sourced technology startups and work with our venture partnerships manager through internal discussion and collaboration with the business units to develop strategic partnership plans and run successful pilots.
  • Analyse trends from internal and external databases and ensure data and records are kept up to date.
  • Lead customer calls and work with industry/technical experts to analyse prospective investments, IP, and technology feasibility.
  • Due Diligence – Support the investment associate with reviewing evidence of performance and compliance.
  • Production of go-to-market content to position MMV to startups, investors,  Mott MacDonald business Units and clients
  • Refine internal processes: make regular improvements to existing investment processes and update internal guidance notes to meet best practice.
  • Support on group innovation framework supporting the group innovation manager to implement the innovation strategy

To apply for this scheme, you will have less than 12 months experience and have a degree or are expected to achieve one of the following degree disciplines:

  • Any Engineering
  • Business / Management or Finance.

In your application you should be able to demonstrate your interest through relevant experience, such as studying relevant modules, or previous work experience.

We are looking for graduates with the following characteristics:

  • Methodical approach to problem solving
  • Ability to use your initiative to undertake tasks efficiently and independently.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, which allow you to confidently liaise with clients and team members.
  • Excellent written communication and attention to detail and be able to demonstrate accurate technical drawings and good report writing.
