Our water resource scheme covers several areas of our business.

Graduate Hydrologist – Available in our Bristol & Cambridge offices
You will work alongside our experts, helping our clients manage, model and regulate their water resources. We deliver key services to a variety of clients such as water companies, environmental regulators, and government bodies.

Typical duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Data collection, review, and analysis
  • Hydrological modelling
  • Climate change impact assessments
  • Catchment management and water quality modelling
  • Undertaking appropriate training and working towards professional qualification.

Graduate Hydrogeologist – Available in our Leeds & Sheffield offices.  

You will work alongside our experts on a range of groundwater projects and catchment management that assist our clients understand the reliability and vulnerability of their water resources. We deliver key services to a variety of clients such as water companies, environmental regulators, and government bodies.

Typical duties and responsibilities include:

  • Ground and surface water quantity and quality analysis
  • Hydrogeological analysis
  • GIS analysis of hydrogeographic and water quality data. Prepare maps of groundwater elevations, geologic structure, cross-sections.
  • Groundwater modelling
  • Undertaking appropriate training and working towards professional qualification

Graduate Flood Risk Specialist – Available in out Leeds, Cambridge & Sheffield offices.

You will work on a range of flood risk management projects, to both increase understanding of flood risk and help develop solutions to reduce the impact of this. This will include river, surface water and coastal sources of flood risk. You will be given full training in industry standard hydraulic modelling and hydrology approaches. Our work is often for authorities developing flood alleviation schemes or for authorities or companies that operate or are developing infrastructure. Increasingly, we are asked to consider nature-based solutions to manage flood risk.

Typical duties will include:

  • Detailed 1D-2D hydraulic modelling using a variety of modelling packages
  • Model building and verification
  • Using GIS tools  for data manipulation and analysis of flood risk and hydrological data
  • Flood Risk/Consequence Assessments.
  • Fluvial and coastal risk management projects.
  • Hydrological studies.
  • Development of solutions to manage flood risk.

Graduate Asset Management Consultant – Available in our Edinburgh office.

Our water asset management and investment planning team provide strategic water sector services to utilities, regulators, multilateral and commercial lenders, government organisations and research bodies. These services include asset management planning, utility performance improvement, regulatory advisory services, investment appraisal, water resource strategies and project finance advisory services. There is a strong demand for our services, particularly with asset management playing a key role in helping water companies meet their targets and achieve their goals across their infrastructure and operations.

You are likely to undertake the following type of work:

  • Prepare interactive data visualisations
  • Analyse large quantities of data from water companies, analysing asset, performance and cost information to assess investment needs
  • Support and advise water companies to operate their assets in a better way
  • Provide input across a diverse range of water and wastewater projects, including developing decision support tools
  • Prepare technical reports and live data sets

Candidate Specification

To apply for this scheme, you will have less than 12 months experience and have a degree or are expected to achieve one of the following degree disciplines:

  • Hydrology
  • Hydrogeology
  • Water resources, or related degree
  • Civil engineering
  • Maths, statistics or related

In your application you should be able to demonstrate your interest through relevant experience, such as studying relevant modules, or previous work experience.

We are looking for graduates with the following characteristics:

  • Methodical approach to problem solving
  • Ability to use your initiative to undertake tasks efficiently and independently.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, which allow you to confidently liaise with clients and team members.
  • Excellent written communication and attention to detail, and be able to demonstrate accurate technical drawings and good report writing.
