Your New Role what’s involved?

Planning

One of the success factors of project delivery is planning. This critical stage offers an opportunity to collaborate with clients and help them make the right choices for their needs and find effective and sustainable strategies that also improve quality of life.

WSP has experienced and established Planning Consultancy teams in 6 of their main UK offices. The Liverpool, Manchester, London, Leeds and Birmingham teams are looking to recruit enthusiastic graduate town planners with a real passion for promoting healthy, socially inclusive, economically and environmentally sustainable places through a positive and proactive use of the town planning system.

Day to day activities could include:

  • Assessing site’s planning history and relevant planning policies contained within a development plan; as well as national planning policy and guidance as a contribution to planning strategies.
  • Preparing briefing notes that set out the likelihood of achieving planning permission for various uses.
  • Drafting planning statements in a clear and persuasive way, to support development proposals.
  • Attending site visits, design team and client meetings.
  • Monitoring planning applications/local plan making and liaising with clients and teams to respond to consultation feedback and disseminate critical information to help shape client and team decisions.

We are proud to be involved in leading some of the largest and most high-profile schemes across the UK regions, which include:

  • South East Warrington Urban Extension – a 4000+ home new urban extension to the south east of the town of Warrington

  • Eden Project Morecambe and Eden Project Dundee – working with the global leading environmental charity to expand their mission around the world.

All in a day’s work

Our Graduates told us the best part of being on the Graduate Development Programme is the support for their own personal development and large network available to them.

They also told us they had the chance to work on a wide variety of projects enabling them to work closely with other disciplines, and allowing them to gain a better understanding of their role on projects and how this enhances the schemes they are involved in. As well the large pool of technical experts to guide them throughout their journey.

You could be involved in development proposals, discussing options for concept designs with colleagues, responding to client requests for information or meetings with the team about the scope and progress of projects.

Naturally, there is a lot to learn, however, the support network available, assists and encourages our early career professionals and offers a wide range of activities. Including social events and many opportunities to assist with team building outside of the work environment.
