As a member of our Traction Power and Electromagnetic Compatibility Team, you will be involved in the delivery of consultancy and design services on a wide range of high-profile international rail decarbonisation projects, working alongside other Graduate and Assistant Electrical Engineers, under the supervision of Senior and Principal Engineers.
The work will be varied, covering all aspects of AC and DC traction power systems for railways, ranging from early feasibility studies through concept and detailed designs. The role will encompass a very broad range of traction power design elements and will enable the successful candidate to apply for Chartered Engineer.
The principal areas of work include, but are not limited to:
Use of TRAIN+MCE traction load-flow simulation package to model traction power supplies,
Development of AC and DC traction power supply systems,
Electromagnetic compatibility hazard identification and analysis,
Electromagnetic interference modelling,
Electromagnetic compatibility assurance,
Production of AC and DC traction substation designs,
Use of CAD to produce 2D and/or 3D drawings, schematics, and diagrams,
Production of earthing and bonding designs,
Production of electrical protection schemes and relay settings,
Production of specifications to support procurement of traction power equipment,
Visits to railway sites on occasion,
Building relations with existing and new clients,
Involvement with bids and production of proposals to win new works,
Production of consultancy reports,
Contribution to ongoing development of engineering tools and processes,
Attendance in client facing meetings from time to time,
Contribution to team meetings and other team events.
