Yorkshire and the Humber +1

Number crunching is for calculators. Accountancy is for creative problem solvers with big ideas who want to make their mark. Does that sound like you?

Our accountants are influential. They are a part of a team that play a key role in crafting the Aviva of the future; they influence the decisions we make, the policies we produce and the way we work.

You don’t need to have studied Accountancy at university to become an Accountant at Aviva - we truly believe new insights and perspectives are invaluable. So whatever your degree, as long as you are curious, customer focused and passionate about learning, we can teach you the rest!

Your role, more specifically:

You’ll train with us for three years, soaking up information from our specialists – but of course, we hope you stay with us for years to come as so many of our colleagues do! You will do three, one-year placements across different finance teams, including Financial Reporting & Controls, Business Partnering, Taxation and Investments. In other words, with us you’ll become a fully qualified accountant, a leader in the making, and you’ll hold the qualification and hands-on experience to launch your career.

What’s in it for you?

  • ICAEW qualification (a Level 7 qualification equivalent to a master’s degree) with exams paid for by Aviva
  • A starting salary of £26K with regular salary increases
  • Annual performance-related bonus
  • Up to 50 paid study days
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • 29 days’ holiday, plus bank-holidays
  • Discounts on all Aviva products
  • Share Save scheme

What do we need from you?

  • 2:1 degree in any subject
  • 3 A-levels (not including General Studies)
  • A passion for business, finance and insurance
  • The confidence and determination to lead
  • Unbeatable people skills
  • A creative, agile mind
  • Initiative and drive to get things done

Where you will be based

During your training, your office base will be either Norwich or York. They are beautiful, buzzing towns in which to embark your career and once you’ve qualified, you will have the chance to broaden your horizons in any of our offices around the UK, or maybe even further afield.

At Aviva we ask our teams to think about when they work in the office and when they choose to work at home. This will vary depending on your role, and your personal circumstances. We call this Smart Working. When you move to each new assignment take time to discuss this with your Leader and agree what works for you, the business and the organisation.

A bit about us

We’re a leading international insurance, savings, retirement, and investment business. When the worst happens, we’re here to put the wrongs right.

You might be thinking that we’re just another boring, corporate firm. But we don’t all wear suits and shiny shoes here. We’re proud to be different and just like our customers, our people are a mix of cultures, genders, and ages.

Like the sound of us? Then we like the sound of you.

Press “apply” to be taken through to our online application where you will answer a short questionnaire about your motivations. You will also be able to attach your CV. If you match our criteria, we’ll send you some numerical and critical reasoning tests. Pass those and you’ll have a video interview. The final stage will be a virtual assessment day where you’ll do tasks where you can show us what you are good at and what you enjoy.

Impress us there and we will offer you a role to start in September 2022

Working at Aviva

At Aviva, we’re people with a purpose. To be with you today, for a better tomorrow.

We bring this to life by ensuring managing risk is at the heart of the way we all work. We love people who do the right thing for our customers, and our colleagues. We want people who speak up, who take responsibility, and who make good decisions.

We care deeply about being inclusive and that means we encourage applications from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We want our employees to bring their whole self to work and that starts with you.  We interview every disabled applicant* that meets the minimum criteria for the job. Once you’ve applied, please send us a separate email stating that you have a disclosed disability, and we’ll make sure we interview you.

We’d love it if you could submit your application online but if you require an alternative method of applying, please contact the recruitment team.

*As defined in The Equality Act 2010*. By ‘minimum criteria’ we mean you should provide us with evidence which demonstrates that you generally meet the level of competence required and have the qualifications, skills or experience defined as essential to perform the role.
