Resilience, Energy and Climate Change is a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, policy experts and environmental scientists who focus on the challenges and opportunities of resilience energy and climate change.

The diverse nature of the work we do means that you will be working for a variety of clients, on projects across a wide range of markets, including utilities and infrastructure providers, local governments, philanthropic organisations focused on low carbon and climate resilient development; international financial institutions, banks and other investors; and developers, among others.

Right now, we're looking for an Graduate low carbon consultant to join our Bristol Office. From your first day, you'll join an unrivalled community of experts, where everyone is supported in their career path and encouraged to work towards a professional qualification.

You'll help us to deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients. While you'll have a great deal of responsibility from day one, we'll give you the chance to take on more as you progress and broaden your skills.

Projects will vary in duration which helps to provide a diverse working environment. This is a varied role, and your day-to-day responsibilities could include the following:

  • Gathering, processing, analysing and interpreting data from a wide variety of sources to advise our clients
  • Carrying our energy and carbon modelling, across a variety of modelling platforms (e.g. matlab, python)
  • Analysis of qualitative data, using a range of social science techniques
  • Research into low carbon energy and wider system innovation.
  • Assessing carbon reduction benefits of a variety of technology options
  • Commercial analysis and financial modelling
  • Arranging and participating in client and stakeholder workshops
  • Contributing to project delivery design advice supporting senior colleagues
  • Producing well written reports in clear English
  • Preparing high quality diagrams and presentations
  • Supporting the development of proposals for new commissions

About you

We are looking for graduates with enthusiasm, curiosity, personal drive, technical knowhow and an ability to communicate clearly and persuasively. If you can combine these skills with an understanding of (or willingness to learn about) the resilience, energy and climate change consulting sector and a desire to deliver excellent services for clients, we would like to hear from you.

We are looking for the following qualifications, attributes and skills:

  • Batchelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Physics, Maths, Environmental Science, Climate Change, Social Science or related degree with a prediction of 2:1 or above
  • A commitment to a resilient and low carbon future
  • A self-starter, interested in applying your skills across a broad range of tasks and projects, working in collaboration with many different specialists
  • Have work experience, gained either through summer or industrial placements, or other relevant experience (e.g. voluntary work, research or university project work)
  • Communicating technical information and issues to non-technical audiences – with particular reference to report writing and oral presentation
  • Good Excel skills
  • Experience in data analysis and system mapping, GIS a plus
  • Collaborative, team player
  • An interest in new technologies, continual learning and applying research

Experience of, or interest in, some of the following would be desirable

  • Governance and policy
  • Business psychology
  • Economics
  • Circular economy
  • Energy systems
  • Software packages such as EnergyPRO, ArcGIS, DIgSILENT, ETAP, IES, NetSim, SPSS, or similar.
  • An interest in approaches to innovation
