Where you could work

Aerospace, Defence, Security & Technology (ADS&T)

Industrial year locations: Bristol, London

Degree requirements: On track for a minimum of a 2.1 Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geospatial, Geography, Earth Sciences

ADS&T is our talented team whose work keeps thousands of air passengers safe, contributes to our nation's resilience and supports organisations through digital transformation.

As one of our Geospatial placement students, you'll play a key role in using spatial technology to provide a leap forward for a wide range of clients, enabling them to not only meet but embrace these exciting times. Working with leading names, you will help to transform the future of large infrastructure, energy, the environment, travel, and our living and working environments.

The team are passionate about the application of geospatial technology to real world problems, applying GIS across a broad range of disciplines from large, nationally important rail projects to human scale projects where metres are as important as miles. You could be working on projects in your home town, or delivering global projects thanks to our strong track record of work in Africa, Asia, and EMEA. As part of the Geospatial Team you will be encouraged to seek out new ways of working, or even taking the lead on a new piece of technology, as part of our research and development portfolio for clients or our own internal software development.

You will get to work on projects from the moment you join, and immediately benefitting from technical training provided for platforms such as FME. Being a GIS placement student is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to contribute to multiple disciplines and throughout all parts of a project’s life cycle. You could be involved in:

  • Full digital strategy provision for key UK bodies
  • 3D visualisation of new cross-country pipeline routes
  • Modelling a city’s journey to net-zero carbon
  • Working with our software developers to create a brand new spatial user portal.

What you can bring

  • An understanding of the consultancy environment
  • Enthusiasm to drive your own career development and a motivation to learn
  • Be curious in your thinking and apply your technical knowledge to analyse problems and create innovative solutions
  • Drive and determination to achieve professional accreditation
  • An interest and ability to adapt to the changing world, new technology and being open to flexible and agile ways of working
  • A desire to develop relationship building skills with clients and internal stakeholders
  • Confidence to work on your own initiative as well as being part of a multidisciplinary team
