Do you know how many parts go into a submarine, aircraft carrier, tank or nuclear power plant? Whether designing, building, operating, managing, or maintaining vital assets, one thing is certain – procurement and supply chain management lies at the heart of our operations and plays a pivotal role in our business success. Working as an integral part of our business, to optimise our demand planning, sourcing, supplier relationships and effective inventory management is key to Babcock’s ability to deliver to our customers.
Joining our Procurement and Supply Chain Management team presents you with a great opportunity to embark on a career which is immensely varied and always interesting. Over the duration of the programme you’ll learn about how we make build vs. buy decisions, design supply chains, provide sourcing expertise and leverage third party relationships to maximise value and support our business growth agenda.
Where you can join us
Places on our Procurement and Supply Chain Management programme for Autumn 2020 are available in our Cavendish Nuclear sector. But no matter which team you join, we ask all our graduates to be flexible and willing to move during their programme.
What you'll be doing
The members of our teams often say that there is no typical day in the life of the Procurement and Supply Chain professional. We touch every kind of project, so you might find yourself doing in-depth spend reviews, building sourcing strategies, supporting supplier innovation days, identifying value chain opportunities, conducting supplier performance reviews, supporting bids teams, or you may be involved in other functional activities. Whatever you find yourself doing, it will be challenging and will make a difference – supporting the business and servicing our customers.
What you'll get out of it
You’ll work on projects across our organisation, developing a deep understanding of the diverse businesses whilst building a well-rounded skill-set for the years to come. Every step of the way, you’ll be mentored and supported towards gaining professional accreditation by the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS). While you’re on the programme you’ll enjoy a competitive starting salary. Don’t just take our word for it – we are proud to have been externally recognised by Procurement Leaders for the ‘2017 Procurement Employer’ Award.
What you'll need
You’ll need a minimum of a 2:1 Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and demonstrable interest in procurement or supply chain. Naturally, you’ll be ambitious and a self-starter who enjoys the challenges of a fast-paced and complex environment. You’ll need good interpersonal skills, the ability to drive change and results, and a clear potential for inspiring others. You’ll also need to satisfy the MOD’s security requirements (and may need to complete a medical assessment).
