An opportunity has arisen for a Graduate position within BAE Systems Procurement department. This role will be based out of our site in Rochester. We support a range of commercial and military platforms, including fixed and rotary wing aircraft, ground vehicles, human-machine interfaces and power management. What you will be doing… (Role Duties and Responsibilities)

In this role you will support the procurement process which follows five basic steps:-

  • Information Gathering and Sourcing
  • Supplier Assessment and Selection
  • Contract Negotiation and Order Placement
  • Supplier Management
  • Acceptance and Payment

Dependant upon the lifecycle of the opportunity, programme, project or commodity concerned then any one stage in the process can be considered more relevant at any given point in time.

The procurement function ensures the governance, management and execution of these process steps to provide best value solutions for the business. As part of a wider Supply Chain Management organisation the function acts as the focal point for all interactions between the business and our global supply chain.

Our objective is to facilitate and direct the most appropriate skills and expertise from within our own project and functional teams to ensure best value solutions and reliable programme performance from all our suppliers and partners The Buyer is responsible for the placement of Purchase Orders, and the maintenance of these Orders in accordance with Procurement procedures and processes. They will maintain effective relationships with suppliers, internal project teams and functions to ensure the timely receipt of material to meet the requirements of the business.

Day to day key responsbilites shall include:-

  • To receive requisitions and demands, negotiate with suppliers, and process Purchase Orders and Purchase Order amendments in accordance with Procurement processes and procedures, and the requirements of the business.
  • To understand the budget requirements for the Purchase Orders they are responsible for, and to support achievement of these requirements through effective negotiation with their supplier.
  • To obtain and communicate progress updates from suppliers in an effective manner, and be capable of resolving issues in a satisfactory manner. To understand when to escalate more critical issues to senior members of staff.
  • To maintain Supplier open order books and ensure that correct and current data is maintained in the Oracle ERP system.
  • To process supplier returns, ensuring these are actioned in a timely manner.
  • To understand and support the implementation of corporate Procurement processes and initiatives as appropriate to their area of responsibility.
  • To support other members of the Procurement Team as required in their daily responsibilities.

Entry Requirements and what we are looking for

To apply, you’ll need to be on course for achieving a 2:2 Bachelor’s degree.  We are looking for degrees in the following areas: Business Administration, Business Management, Management, Management Sciences, Procurement or any Operations related qualifcation .
