We are hiring graduate energy specialists to join our Energy and Infrastructure team within our Cambridge and Leeds office. The UK’s energy sector has been transformed over the last twenty years, with a transition from a fossil-fuel based centralised system to an increasingly renewable and decentralised model. Carter Jonas is at the heart of this energy transition, advising and assisting clients in the development, delivery, acquisition and sale of energy projects. The Carter Jonas energy team has grown to be one of the leading providers of advice and services to the property, development and land-based sectors. Covering the full range of energy technologies within industry, business and local authorities, including solar photovoltaic, wind, anaerobic digestion, peaking power, gas combined heat and power, battery storage and energy from waste, we also advise on projects in the conventional oil and gas sector.
You will deal with a wide range of clients from investors, energy project developers, to local councils, landowners, agri-businesses and small and multinational commercial businesses. You will gain experience in specialised and sought-after skills including project feasibility, project development, land assembly negotiations and energy project valuation.
- Screening of potential energy development sites, evaluation and advising on opportunities.
- Assist in the completion and / or review of screening and feasibility studies reporting on site suitability.
- Assist in the drafting, negotiating and agreeing heads of terms, and option & lease agreements.
- Assisting with investment appraisals, due diligence and valuations.
- Identifying and delivering / referring / executing brokerage opportunities
- Preparation, submission, and management of grid connection applications, and liaison with the Distribution Network Operators and the National Grid to secure favourable grid connections.
- Drafting press articles, publications, newsletters and research documents.
- Attending industry events & drafting press articles and publications to promote and develop business
We welcome applications from candidates with a range of different degrees. It will be expected that the candidate can demonstrate their understanding, knowledge and interest in the energy sector. Experience in the land and property sectors will be useful but not essential. Students who are interested in completing the APC will be considered for the appropriate pathway, depending on your background. It is essential that you have a full UK driving license, as regular travel is required.
