The Change and Business Solutions programme provides our graduates the opportunities to build the foundations for a long-term and varied career within the bank. You’ll build strong analytical skills while developing an agile, digital and customer focussed mind set to support leading edge change and transformation solutions to help serve our customers well.

Innovation within the Financial Services industry is crucial to remaining commercial and competitive. This pathway will use customer experiences, data and technology to support cutting edge insights, enabling RBS and our businesses to be more agile and innovative, keeping us ahead of the curve with the ever evolving needs of our customers.

About the programme

During this two year graduate programme you’ll be working hands-on across several areas of the bank. You’ll be developing relationships across the organisation, where you can influence and drive effective innovative change, and take on more complex situations as you progress.

We’ll reward you with a starting salary of £31,850. On top of your salary you’ll also have access to our flexible benefits package.

As a Graduate trainee on this programme, you can expect to:

  • Interpret objectives and data in order to develop meaningful innovative solutions
  • Develop commercial acumen and strong customer centricity skills
  • Build an awareness of emerging technologies and concepts across the industry
  • Build an understanding of agile methodologies, mind sets and systems thinking
  • Gain business and data analysis, diagnostic and change management expertise
  • Identify, define and manage specific stages of projects
  • Investigate and identify innovative ways to improve business systems and processes
  • Develop strong consultancy, communication and influencing abilities to build trusted stakeholder relationships across our organisation, and drive change
  • Develop critical thinking, creative problem solving, innovation, design thinking and change ready capabilities
  • Work on our customer journeys, getting front to back experiences
  • Have the opportunity to choose the type of qualification you study, and where you would like to develop further

After a full induction, you’ll begin your rotational placements within the Change & Business Solutions pathway.  You’ll go through four, six month rotations across different areas of our business.

At the end of the two years, we hope to see you join us in a permanent role. We’ll be supporting your career development throughout, but particularly during your last rotation we’ll focus on any skills gaps and how you can get the experience you need to support you rolling off the programme. Depending on your talents and preferences, you could take on a role as a Journey Developer, Business Analyst, Data Analyst or Strategy Analyst, as a few examples.

Supporting you

We pride ourselves on the professional support we offer our graduates, and the friendly, down to earth community our graduates have shaped themselves.

Before you start, we’ll pair you with a ‘buddy’ (a graduate already on the programme) who’ll be there to help you get settled, answer any questions, and share their experiences.

We’ll also assign you a Graduate Coach and a Placement Manager. Your Graduate Coach will be there to provide support throughout the programme, and will work with you to create a Personal Development Plan. Your Placement Manager will provide rotation specific support, and will change with each placement. Together, they’ll help you reflect on your progress, develop your career, and build your professional network.

Graduate Professional Development

Onboarding

If we offer you a role, one of the first things we’ll do is invite you to join our onboarding portal for successful graduates. It’s a great way for us to communicate key messages and to make sure you’re all ready for your first day. We’ll pair you up with your buddy who’ll be able to answer your questions before starting and who’ll help you settle in. We’ll also introduce you to your line manager before you start too, because we want to make sure you hit the ground running.

#Banking, #RBS is a programme we’ve designed to help you get ready for day one and beyond by building your knowledge. It’s training that all our graduates take part in and it’ll help you understand how our entire business operates.

The training focuses on:

  • How our business is structured
  • Who our customers are
  • How we manage risk
  • How we’re innovating and the external business climate
  • Networking with other business areas
  • Seeing the front to back and back to front of our whole operation

The training is delivered in lots of different ways, including:

  • Live virtual sessions using our internal social network, Workplace
  • Workshops with our Entrepreneurial Development Academy
  • Simulations
  • Shadowing colleagues
  • Sessions with mentors

We start your training before your first day where you’ll complete some short, bite sized activities that we’ll then build on when you join. After you start, you’ll have the chance to take part in a series of learning activities to improve your understanding of our whole business, how we’re connected with each other and how we drive successful customer outcomes.

Induction

You’ll hear from leaders across our business and be brought up to speed on key topics like our customers, bank structure, entrepreneurship, risk and control, technology and digital innovation.

Rotations

After your induction, you’ll begin your first rotation. We’ll assign you a business area, placement manager and team.

You’ll go through four, six month rotations across different areas of our business. Through these placements, you’ll gain experience of various aspects of transformational change within the bank – from business analysis, through to creative problem solving and customer led design.

Qualifications

As you progress through each rotation you’ll be able to take advantage of a comprehensive suite of learning and training options to develop the technical and business expertise you’ll need.

You’ll also be able to work towards a recognised formal qualification as part of your development.

Community project

During the programme you’ll take part in a community project with a team of fellow graduates. This involves linking up with a charitable organisation and developing and delivering a solution to support its work.

You’ll have the chance to participate in a fund raising competition with other teams, and present your project to a panel of senior managers. It’s a great opportunity to contribute to a valuable cause and put your entrepreneurial skills to the test!

About you

To be considered for this graduate scheme, you’ll need to have, or be on course to achieving a 2:1 in your degree.

We’re looking for customer focused people who have a real passion for innovation; people who can work effectively within a team and openly challenge the status quo to develop effective business solutions. You’ll need to have excellent communication skills, and an inquisitive nature, paired with a technical mind set and analytical abilities.
