After my degree I felt an overwhelming need to inspire the next generation of young black girls to become scientists! I want to be that relatable figure in their lives, Channei, Ark Chemistry trainee

By sharing your passion for Science with young people through fantastic teaching, you’ll be giving them the knowledge and skills they need to broaden their horizons, pursue the sciences and wider areas of study. You’ll open up their futures to a vast number of exciting career opportunities.

Who are we?

Ark Teacher Training is an ‘Outstanding’ teacher training programme offering the perfect mixture of theory and classroom practice to develop you into the best teacher you can be. We believe that every child, regardless of their background, deserves to have access to a great education, which is why we work mainly in areas of low income with a history of academic underachievement.

The majority of trainees, particularly recent graduates, are put on the School Direct bursary route. The amount range depending on the subject you wish to teach but for Chemistry this would be up to £26,000.

This is something we live by – ensuring every member of our school community has the support, resources and knowledge to do their best work and feel the pride and sense of community that comes from doing such powerful work together. Our clear and embedded school routines are essential to our striving for excellence – and support all teachers to have impact in their classrooms from the first day of teaching.

But the main reason you will want to stay at Elvin is our pupils: they are proud of their school and want to work hard – our school’s sense of community is palpable. They are curious, resilient and generous young people who need great teachers. Our school’s diversity is a strength and one that makes Elvin such a rich environment to work – from pupils to staff, all are proud of their backgrounds and cultures and what it brings to a vibrant and caring
