DTS Software Engineering

Immerse yourself in the world of Centrica, IT, and you will become part of our growing team of Software Engineers spanning a range of disciplines including Data Engineering, Data Science, Cloud Platform Engineering, Digital Product Engineering, Network Engineering, and Information/Cyber Security. You will learn new software and data skills and, maybe more importantly, how to apply them to business opportunities.

You will be expected to learn and develop with software that is new to you and can expect to be pushed out of your comfort zone and be problem-solving from day one. You will be given the opportunity to pitch and demonstrate your solutions to Senior Management at various times on the programme.

You will be supported by our network of technical experts who will enable your technical and behavioural skills development.

Your placement will be with one of our technology teams where you will be given the opportunity to learn new skills and apply them in a business environment, that may include:

  • Web & mobile app development to build digital products for our customers
  • Core application development to build functionality into our customer and billing systems
  • Data engineering, data science, and machine learning to provide intelligent capabilities
  • Cloud platform/network engineering to build flexible and scalable solution environments
  • Information/cyber security technology to ensure our environments are safe and secure

Whichever placement you are on, you’ll be exposed to projects delivering real software solutions, learning new software and data skills, and understanding how they can be used to drive business results.

Our main office is in Windsor, but we also have offices in Leicester and London. We’d love for you to be open and willing to travel to our different sites to really get the most from your 9 weeks with us. This will give you a better experience of how our people and teams work together across Centrica.

Here's what we need from you:

  • Expecting a minimum 2:1 degree (2:2 if combined with a Masters)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
  • Have the right to work in the UK at the start of internship
  • Available to start the programme from 17th June – Friday 15th August 2025

We’re a people place

We’re building a workplace where everyone feels they can belong – and we’re looking for people to add to this culture, not merge in with it. We know that every voice matters, and every new perspective makes us more empathetic and reflective of the 10 million customers we serve.

You are welcome here for who you are, no matter how you see the world, how you express yourself or the journey you’ve been on to get here. It’s our differences that will give us the power to revolutionise the future of our planet.

With 13 different colleague networks, there’s space to find your community, beyond the graduate sphere.

Here’s what's in it for you

You’ll be paid a salary of £24,000 (pro rata) and accommodation will be provided for the duration of your internship if required.

Are you ready?

If you're dynamic, fired up about sustainability, and ready to craft not only a better tomorrow, but a better you, then come and find your purpose in a team where your voice matters, your growth is non-negotiable, and your ambitions are our priority.

At Centrica, we embrace diversity and seek to attract individuals with unique backgrounds and perspectives. To build a more sustainable future, we need the best team – a team with a diverse mix of people and skills, where everyone feels welcome and able to succeed. We are dedicated in helping to close the diversity gap and would love to see more females, people of colour and LGBTQ+ employees, as well as those from a variety of cultures and ethnicity to veterans and the differently abled. Supporting diversity and inclusion is a big part of who we are, we are not looking for people to blend into our culture but to add to it!
