Type of opportunity:
Degree requirements: Must be studying an undergraduate degree in a Life Science for example in Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Immunology, Pharmacology. A level in Biology required.
You will have completed a minimum of 2 years of your undergraduate degree but will not have graduated at the start of your placement. You will be expected to provide evidence from your university to show you will be an undergraduate student for the duration of the placement year.
Immuno-Oncology & Combinations Research Unit (IOC RU) is currently seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic undergraduate student with knowledge in oncology or immunology and a flair for practical work.
In this role, you will be responsible for conducting innovative research designed to identify and validate immune-based therapies for cancer.
You will be based within a state-of-the-art collaborative research lab and you will be trained and mentored by an individual supervisor. You will work within a multidisciplinary team where the research you conduct will support an active drug discovery program. You will experience a range of laboratory techniques that are applicable to modern drug discovery such as primary cell isolation, cytokine & immune cell profiling through flow cytometry and MSD, functional assays and many others. By the end of the placement you would have gained sufficient experience to be autonomous in designing and conducting experiments, documenting and reporting your scientific findings and understanding how a large multidisciplinary team interacts. Furthermore, you will gain valuable transferable skills such as effective communication, time management and organisational skills.
