Introducing the firm
Meet the firm changing the game. Right now, Hogan Lovells' 2,600 lawyers are working worldwide on cases that shape legal precedent; projects that enable innovation for prestigious clients. And across 48 global locations, we’re doing it all seamlessly, as one team.
Types of work
What does our global reach mean for you? Exposure to exciting, headline-grabbing legal projects which help our clients look to the future and become even more successful. Join us, and you’ll develop a deep understanding of our bold and distinctive approach to creating valuable global solutions, as you learn from down-to-earth specialists.
Since opening the Birmingham office in January 2015, we’ve consistently and successfully built our legal capability, handling corporate, commercial, litigation, construction, real estate, real estate finance and asset finance work. So with all kinds of opportunities at your fingertips – and plenty of dedicated support – you’ll grow your legal expertise, sharpen your commercial edge and discover a career path that’s personal to you.
From autumn 2021, the route to solicitor qualification is changing. All graduates, no matter what they studied, will need to successfully complete the brand-new Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE). Those looking to join us from non-law backgrounds will also need to first gain a Postgraduate Diploma in Law (pGDL) before taking the SQE. But don’t worry – our bespoke and market-leading City Consortium Solicitor Training Programme will provide you with everything you need to prepare and succeed.
With these qualifications in hand, you’ll then join us for two years of training – helping you grow both personally and professionally. We’ll give you as much exposure as you can handle (in our experience it’s the best way to learn), so that you gain the confidence to think ahead and shape our clients’ futures. Throughout, you’ll enjoy expert guidance and advice, comprehensive legal skills training, and regular reviews
Who we look for
As one of the world’s largest and most established law firms, we tackle fascinating and complex legal issues for our clients. So we look for smart, collaborative and determined individuals from all kinds of backgrounds and with all kinds of experience. A strong academic record is important: you should have, or be on track for, a good 2:1 or above in your degree. You must also be the kind of person who adapts well to new situations, delivers on their promises and has the creativity to take ideas in new directions. Above all, you must be able to work well with others and build lasting relationships with colleagues and clients alike.
When and how to apply
The application window for training contracts in Birmingham is open between 14 September 2020 and 31 March 2021 for training contracts commencing in August 2023.
Please note: we recruit on a rolling basis and will make offers to candidates from January onwards.
So now there’s only one question. Are you ready to change the game?
