We are offering 200 Teacher Training Scholarships to reward the very best graduates entering physics teacher training.

Successful scholars will receive £26,000 tax-free funding and a package of exclusive support from us at the Institute of Physics (IOP).

What’s in it for you?

In addition to £26,000 tax-free funding and you’ll become a part of our community of scholars with access to:

  • Free IOP membership throughout the teacher training year including access to Physics World publication, our exclusive Career Development Hub and member-led local branches and special interests groups
  • Professional development opportunities with support from IOP Educational teams in your region as well as access to CPD online events and virtual networking opportunities with your fellow scholars throughout your training year

To apply for a scholarship you need:

  • A physics or related degree.
  • An excellent academic record, with a first or 2:1 degree (proven or predicted). If you have a 2:2 degree, we will consider your application if you have significant relevant experience or a master's degree, PhD or recognised equivalent.
  • A physics A-level or equivalent (grade C or above) is desirable.

Where you’ll be based

To become an IOP Scholar, you need to secure a place on a non-salaried teacher training course in England by September 2021.

Being a physics teacher not only means that you’ll be able to use your degree every day, but you will also have the flexibility to work in your preferred location.

How you can apply

All applications are made online at the link below.

Please read our eligibility criteria thoroughly before making your application.

If your online application is shortlisted, it will be reviewed by a panel of IOP staff including experienced physics teachers. You will also be asked to complete a further online subject knowledge test based on school-level physics up to and including A-level. Successfully passing this test, the receipt of a suitable reference and gaining a recommendation from the shortlisting panel will lead to a scholarship offer. The IOP reserve the right to request candidates attend an online interview should the panel deem this necessary.
