We are offering an exciting opportunity to join FIS for 10 weeks (based in Manchester) during the Summer 2022. You will be part of our FIS University – Summer Internship Program and have the opportunity to participate in team projects, social events, and professional development seminars.

About the team

The Risk Systems, Intelligence & Modelling team (RSIM) is responsible for the effective management and monitoring of Fraud and Credit Risk within the Merchant Solutions division of the business at the point of boarding and in-life monitoring.

The team is diverse and highly skilled in risk management often needing to analyse large quantities of data and information over a short timeframe before reaching an outcome. This data is mined from our main database platform – SQL, which is then professionally summarised in Excel/PowerPoint board packs and presented to stakeholders and management accordingly.

What you will be doing

During your placement, your role will include (but not limited to):

  • The RSIM team maintain and manage rule sets and models within the Transaction Monitoring tool to assess for Fraud, Credit Risk and AML adverse activity. You will be learning on the job to understand the key elements and decisioning behind effective rule changes and ongoing management, to better assist the different risk typologies referenced within each stakeholder area to better understand how each department operates and mitigates loss exposure
  • This internship will be geared towards understanding the merchant lifecycle; from point of boarding, into successful/healthy trading, combatting threats to a business such as Chargebacks, Debt and Fraud experienced by the merchant and closing of accounts as and when this occurs
  • You will join the existing members in the team today, working alongside the Transaction Monitoring and SMB Credit teams to gather requirements for effective live rule enhancements to increase detection rate and reduce the volume of false positives and help prevent loss to the business
  • Alongside assisting with managing the Transaction Monitoring tool, you will be involved in the production of regular BAU reporting, which helps our Transaction Monitoring and Credit Risk stakeholders to identify which merchants require immediate attention and investigation
  • Review and investigate live cases of potentially suspicious activity and understand why this activity is deemed suspicious.
  • Support our stakeholders with referrals and management of incoming queries
  • Help increase stakeholder efficiencies in BAU through streamlined automation of regular reporting

Who we are looking for

  • Penultimate year of an undergraduate degree, or in your final year of an undergraduate degree with a one-year postgraduate place confirmed
  • Excellent communication (written, verbal and listening skills)
  • Confident working with other teams and building out a network
  • Proactive mindset, with a willingness to ask questions
  • Strong numeracy, analytical and strategy skills
  • IT competence and computer literacy
  • You demonstrate strong problem-solving and organisational skills
  • The ability the explain complex issues and present technical information clearly
  • The capacity to work independently and cope with pressure and responsibilities
  • A professional approach to work, integrity, and respect for ethics
  • An interest in financial technology, including payments technology and products
