What the training programme involves

Joining a dedicated professional Engineering team, you will embark on a 12-month training programme as part of an agile development team; working closely with a technical mentor, who will help you to develop the business and technological knowledge and skills required to flourish within the business.

What you’ll get from the programme

By the end of the training programme, you should be able to demonstrate good knowledge of:

  • Software testing analysis tools & techniques
  • Agile software development
  • Azure cloud hosting & DevOps
  • A programming language (for coding automated tests)

Upon successful completion of the training programme, you will be offered a permanent contract as an Associate Test Engineer, with a career path and development plan to progress you swiftly to our Test Engineer role.

Applicants are not expected to have all the technical and business skills needed to start; we understand that knowledge is grown over time. Thus, we’re looking for a candidate that shares our values, strives for innovation and is driven by technology.

Please include a cover letter in your application. We receive a large volume of applicants for the trainee programme, so any evidence you already have of testing will support your application. Examples to incorporate include:

  • IT experience using tools, technologies, methodologies or best practice for developing, testing, or supporting systems or software
  • Experience in a quality control or data analysis environment
  • Academic knowledge in IT practices
  • Drive and determination to rapidly learn complex skills independently
  • Collaborating and working in teams

This role will be based at our state-of-the-art Headquarters in Southampton. However, all our people, where they can are currently working from home.

We also recognise that Ordnance Survey’s ambition to continue attracting and retaining the most talented individuals means providing flexibility where possible, which is why we’re keen to hear from suitable individuals open to hybrid working; where there will be a split between home and office working.
