The Service

Mace is proud to champion responsible business behaviours. Our Community & Skills team operate across several construction projects, working closely with many different stakeholders to ensure that our work not only benefits our clients but the local communities as well. This can include anything from acting as a neighbourhood liaison, to community outreach, working with charity partners or supporting local education and employment initiatives.

Duties & Responsibilities    

Project management 

  • Project manage the delivery of the community investment, neighbour liaison, employment and skills plans, working within the construction business and in conjunction with the local community 
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders including the client, supply chain and key decision makers to ensure a collaborative approach 
  • Attend client meetings and project review meetings to report outputs, issues and risks around community, employment and skills targets
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with client and stakeholders including local councils, educational institutions, employment charities and job center's and other relevant stakeholders
  • Contribute towards the quality standards/processes guiding the Mace Way 
  • Understand the Considerate Constructor Scheme (CCS); create and manage new initiatives for continuous improvement under the schemes’ priorities 
  • Create reports for clients, project directors and others as required     

Neighbour Liaison

  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all dealings and communications with the members of the local community 
  • Deal with queries and issues in a professional manner and effectively deal with conflict as and when required 
  • Write and produce project communications regarding upcoming construction works 
  • Plan and manage meetings with local communities and stakeholders when required (some meetings may require out of hours attendance)     

Community Investment

  • Work with the project teams to identify and set up activities for short and long term community investment in line with the Responsible Business strategy 
  • Set targets, measure and report the social value created through a course of a construction project 
  • Engage with schools / colleges for site visits, work experience in line with Mace’s strategic objectives      

Employment and skills

  • Ensure a coordinated approach with Mace project commercial team to ensure S106 contractual obligations are formally issued to our supply chain in tenders and contracts
  • Manage the S106 monthly monitoring and reporting requirements for projects and submit to the relevant council and client where necessary
  • Screen, manage and refer apprenticeship and job start candidates to our sub-contractors 
  • Provides case load with Information, Advice & Guidance, CV Development, Training Needs Analysis, and construction industry orientation
  • Identify and produce case studies to assist with communicating best practice      
  • Any other ad hoc duties as required 

Minimum Requirements 

  • A minimum 2.1 undergraduate degree (expected or obtained)
  • 240 UCAS points and Grade C in GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent qualifications)
  • Evidence of significant extra-curricular activities that demonstrate drive and excellent interpersonal skills  
  • A passion for a career in the construction industry
