The Operations department is sometimes known as the ‘engine room’ of a financial organisation, working to keep vast quantities of information, money and products flowing correctly.  Operations works in partnership with the multiple business lines in our Sales & Trading business, providing pre/post trade support for transactions executed in the primary and secondary markets for Fixed Income, Equities, Structured, Financing and Derivative markets.

Operations don’t actively generate revenue but they are recognised as key to our profitability – playing a crucial role in managing risk and minimising financial losses.  The team plays a major role in delivering an optimal, full-spectrum service for all clients of Mizuho.  This requires members of staff to develop a wide range of understanding of the businesses and an appreciation of the end-to-end processes supporting the life-cycle of a transaction.

In addition to core responsibilities, Operations support new business proposals, regulatory change and general initiatives to improve processes and systems.

You will be in the penultimate year of your degree and be on course to achieve a min 2.1, however in addition we are looking for individuals who will learn and drive our business forward by bringing with them a winning spirit, the ability to inspire trust and provoke diversity of thought.

To become an intern in Operations you must have an interest in process and systems, attention to detail is critical and an analytical mindset focused on problem solving will also help you succeed.  Your degree discipline doesn’t matter – but you will need to be IT literate and able to learn new systems/applications quickly.

Applicants must also be able demonstrate their interest to work and succeed in financial services and be:

  • Highly motivated with strong academic qualifications (any degree discipline);
  • Innovative thinkers who want to make a difference and have the drive to do so;
  • Exceptional communicators with the ability to work in a collaborative environment; and
