We’re looking for talented Economics graduates to join our Graduate Development Programme.

About the Programme

Ofwat (the Water Services Regulation Authority) is the economic regulator of the water and wastewater sector in England and Wales. Our role is to help it build trust and confidence with customers, the environment and wider society. We launched our new strategy for regulating the sector last October and we’re full speed ahead designing new ways of working that will help us to achieve our ambitious vision and deliver our strategy for 2020 and beyond, so this is an exciting time to join our team and ride the wave!

Our dynamic and packed 24-month programme will enable you to use the economic tools developed in your degree to help us solve problems in the water industry.

Rotating through four six-month placements within different of work areas, you’ll be part of a multi-disciplinary team with opportunities to apply the principles of regulatory economics, competition economics, industrial organisation, and financial economics in the real world. You will also be able to develop broader skills, including policy development, data analysis, modelling, drafting and presentation.

This is complex and high profile work and you’ll be given the opportunity to demonstrate your potential from the outset.

Who are we looking for?

Enthusiastic, engaged and highly motivated individuals ready to make a difference, you’ll find your feet and become effective very quickly in our small, friendly and inclusive organisation. You’ll be empowered by our culture of autonomy, collaboration, learning and innovation and you’ll be exposed to senior executives and stakeholders early on, giving you the opportunity to raise your profile internally and within the sector.

With a strong academic foundation, an instinct for problem solving and a resilient approach, you will have (or be on target to achieve this year) at least a 2:1 degree in a subject with a significant focus on microeconomics, industrial organisation or financial economics. We’re particularly keen to hear from you if you have (or will obtain this year) a relevant post-graduate degree. In either case, as this is a Graduate programme, we are looking for no more than two years’ post-graduate work experience.

As a Graduate Associate on our programme, you’ll be employed on a 24 month fixed term contract with a starting salary of £28,000 plus a substantial benefits package including 25 days holiday plus 10 half bank holiday and privilege leave days per annum.

Based in either our Birmingham or London offices (you’ll be able to express a preference for which) with a requirement to travel to the other office as needed, we operate a truly flexible and agile working culture with all of the IT/infrastructure (including a Surface Pro and iPhone) to enable you to work efficiently where and when needed.

Sounds good? We're looking to appoint this year with an assessment centre to take place on 2nd April and a start date of 7th September 2020. The closing date for applications is Sunday 1st March 2020 so don't miss out!
