Placement student postions for 2020

The placement roles will be based in our London office and the roles on offer for our 2020 intake are:

  • Finance Analyst: Working alongside the trade floor, the role of the Finance group is primarily to support the trading and supply operations for our European crude oil and refined products business. This is a fast paced and dynamic environment. The Finance team is part of the wider trading organisation and works with the ‘Front’ and ‘Middle’ office on a daily basis. Responsibilities include, dealing with varied groups within Phillips 66 such as Treasury, Trading, Operations and Finance Management. Primary contact and overall responsibility for the coke marketing business (invoicing counterparties and overall reconciliation of monthly results). Management of payment run process for EAME Commercial. Reconciliation of broker statements to the trading system, and resolving issues arising. Management of the ‘Margin call’ process involving interaction with trading managers and brokers, ensuring smooth running of our paper trading activities. Participation in ‘ad hoc’ projects arising, such as working directly with Exchanges to develop an efficient process to validate initial and variation margins on P66 trading activity.
  • Risk Analyst: This key role is aimed at supporting the control activities on each desk including calculating an independent view of exposure and supporting daily profit and loss generation when required, and will provide the Risk Analyst with a detailed understanding of the businesses undertaken by EAME Commercial. The role should also provide an opportunity to learn and develop skills in the identification, assessment and implementation of risk management techniques and strategies.
  • Understanding the deal life cycle and keeping track of deals through various systems to ensure the accuracy of exposure, VaR and P&L reporting.
  • Building strong relationships with the trading and operations teams and developing the role into a recognised advisory resource for the business.
  • Enhancing risk monitoring and evaluation tools for the physical business.
  • Leverage knowledge gained to deliver value-add analyses to the business.
  • IT Analyst: This position will be working as part of the London IT team and will provide on-site desk side support to the London office as well as be involved in applications support and small projects. This position will receive functional guidance from our European Desk side Functional network.

Primary Accountabilities/Responsibilities include:

  • Providing desk side and remote support for our personal computing environment
  • Frequent interaction with multiple IT support personnel in Bartlesville and Houston
  • Perform builds, delivery, installation and repair of computing equipment
  • Handling technical desktop support issues
  • Optimise service delivery by improving reliability, efficiency, quality and cost effectiveness of defined components of services
  • Work with external vendors and other internal teams to ensure services meet customer needs
  • Resolve service delivery issues
  • Day-to-day support of IT hardware and applications
  • Supporting interfaces with third parties
  • Create and maintain systems and network documentation
  • Opportunities to participate in IT projects

What we are looking for in a placement student

As an undergraduate placement student with Phillips 66, your work will play a key role in helping us make the decisions that maximise our value for employees, shareholders and customers; assess the health of our business; and drive improved performance.

  • You are legally authorised to work in the United Kingdom on a regular, full-time basis without restrictions
  • You are on target for a 2.1 degree classification or higher
  • You have the option to take part in a placement year as part of your degree course
  • You are a talented analytical individual with strong numerical capabilities
  • You have a real flair for problem-solving and teamwork
  • Proficient knowledge and experience of MS application
  • Interpersonal communication, both written and oral presentation skills
  • You have the option to take part in a placement year as part of your degree course
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills
  • Good financial / economic evaluation skills
  • Most importantly, you have a passion and excitement for the energy industry
