The European Business Development & Licensing team based in London is responsible for search, evaluation and negotiation of all early-stage (discovery, preclinical through pre-proof of concept in humans) Therapy Area transactions supporting the Business Development objectives for our organisation’s Research Labs in Europe and Middle East.

The Business Development Support Associate role will provide you with a wide breadth of experiences in your 12-month rotational placement with us. You will get the opportunity to get experience in all the things we do, such as; Transactions, Search and Evaluation, Operations and Discovery Transactions as well as alliance management.

The role will include rotations through all three main areas of Business Development.

Search & Evaluation (S&E), Transactions, and Alliance Management.


You can expect your duties to vary as you rotate through each area, but below are some examples of what you can expect to be getting involved in during your placement with us.

In this role you will be working to:

  • Research projects with a focus on external innovation and drug development. The intern will gain an understanding of how pharma access external innovation to build their pipeline of novel medicines for patients
  • Understand pharma/biotech deal activity and deal models of our peers in the industry
  • Understand Drug Development process
  • Understand how novel technologies and assets that will drive future medicines are sourced and evaluated

Additionally, you will:

  • Work alongside our team to deliver on additional operational projects
  • Work alongside our team in developing best practises for business development science
  • Work alongside our team in external stakeholder engagements

Technical Specifications

  • You will be looking to complete a 12-month full-time placement in your third or penultimate year of study, returning to your course at the end of the placement
  • Studying a biomedical, science (or equivalent qualification in a life science discipline)
  • Candidates must have proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Candidates must have good communication skills, demonstrated curiosity and eagerness to learn new things and ask questions.
