About the role
Interested in being responsible for choosing and buying goods, items, and services that will be used by us? Then getting 12-months of experience as a procurement buyer, could be your insight in to whether this is the career for you. Of course, this job entails more than just simple buying. After all you have to set the price and quality of the items and services, making sure that they fit the needs and standards of our business.

Moreover, it would also be your job to assess the need of the company for the said items and services. As a buyer, you will have to know about current price trends and how they will affect the business. You need to coordinate with suppliers, look for better ones, and organise and assess bids.

The buyer role could be in one of the various areas within the Global Procurement Indirect or Direct teams. These teams help procure the goods, services and work required to keep National Grid operating.

Teams include Electricity Transmission, Gas Transmission, Indirects, Fleet, Capital Delivery, Information Services, National Grid Ventures, Strategy, Global or Contract Management. You will be responsible for negotiating and contracting goods and services and delivering them in ways that guarantee quality and value to our colleagues in National Grid across all directorates.

Key tasks and areas of work
You will be responsible for procuring a range of goods and services. This role will cover a wide remit, from development of category strategies through to running and managing sourcing projects to contract award.Engaging with multiple business units in running full Strategic Sourcing Events, performing Mini Tendering specific requirements on a framework of suppliers whilst working closely with the buyers and key stakeholders.

Roles in Global Procurement?s Contract Management Team will require you to support the Contract Management process for contracts negotiated by the Buying teams that have been handed over to the Contract Management function.

Role requirements
This programme may consist of rotational placements and therefore you must be willing to relocate as and when the programme requires.

Qualifications: You must be in your penultimate year at university and be predicted to gain, a 2:2 degree classification or above in Maths, Business, Economics, English, Geography, History, Management, Logistics, Supply Chain, Finance or Law discipline.

You will receive a starting salary of �19,400 during your industrial placement as well as 25 days' holiday and close mentoring and feedback to ensure you get the most out of your placement.Best of all, if you have delivered excellent performance during your placement you may be offered an opportunity on our Graduate Development Programme at the start of your final year; leaving you free to concentrate on achieving that all important grade.
